Noobdood Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 Why is it that everyone uses HIPS over regular styrene sheets? It looks to be 10x cheaper. I've worked with the stuff before, but not for vacuforming. Does it not mold well? It seems tough enough to me. What's the deal? Quote
walt[501st] Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 Styrene is HIPS. Just a bit stronger. Forms wonderful and smells nice Quote
Noobdood Posted August 31, 2015 Author Report Posted August 31, 2015 I see, also I've learned the thickness adds to the price. Thus I now understand why stormtrooper armor is so dang expensive, even when made yourself. I'm still researching this stuff so I can save enough money to justify the purchase. No matter how hard I try to save cash, the project seems to be way pricey. Making the molds, vacuform table, all of fit is doable for me but justifying the money. Can't do 1k on this build..... The white armor styrene would have to be found at a deal for me... Hmm, well, I will keep pondering and looking. Maybe if I can get the hook up. Quote
Elumusic[TK] Posted September 17, 2015 Report Posted September 17, 2015 By the time you are done making your molds and building the table etc you will have spent in excess of $1000 easy. I know cuz I did. I could have purchased a couple of sets of armor from someone else and saved myself a lot of cash. Quote
