Darth Havoc[TK] Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 To be honest I'm not sure how bindi works. Post up some pics of the thigh build so I can see. What you can use is extra scrap abs from your cuts and acetone to make a slurry. Use the slurry to act as a bonding agent. There are a bunch of builds on here that used that method. I'll try and find some of the links. Again, the thighs were the most frustrating of my build. Quote

Trogdor[TK] Posted September 13, 2015 Author Report Posted September 13, 2015 Thats the clincher I gonna find that stuff. I did manage to find a pretty good match for the abs. It's similar to the paint in that thread...
Rustoleum 2x ultra cover gloss white. I got the test fitting photos uploaded finally. I'll post in the thread when I get to a computer. Thanks for the info! Quote
Trogdor[TK] Posted September 28, 2015 Author Report Posted September 28, 2015 I made some progress over the past couple weeks. Pictures tonight.

Hand guards done, canvas belt made, thermal detonator done, inner cover strips on biceps and forearms, elastic loops on shoulder bells. I also have been thining out the return edges on everything else. I finally pulled the trigger and ordered an e-11.

I also got two different kinds of apoxie sculpt. White is more like white clay colored super white is more like the white plastic. It doesn't match but it's a brighter white so the paint covers nicely. Once I fit the ab I'll set the thighs and start the shims. Quote
MrMumbles[TK] Posted September 28, 2015 Report Posted September 28, 2015 Let me know if you're able to upload those photos. I've been trying for two days to add more photos to my esb build post. Keep getting an error... Please tell me if you get one, too. P. S. Your build looks great! Ā Ā Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote

Keep getting an error... Please tell me if you get one, too. P. S. Your build looks great! Ā Ā Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Ā I have been using photo bucket. Which is why I haven't been posting photos to the forum lately (I need 2 browser windows for my method). Ā I know they set photo upload limits in the forum software so things stay fast and affordable. Ā Ā Check outĀ http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/32273-tips-for-using-photobucket-to-post-pics/?hl=%2Bpost+%2Bphoto Justjoseph63 's post of ukswrath method. Ā Ā Thanks! Quote
Trogdor[TK] Posted September 29, 2015 Author Report Posted September 29, 2015 So here is the shots from the first (second) fitting. Ā This is what helped me realize your return edges have a big impact on things. Ā Is this the right direction for the hand guards? Ā More pictures soon. Quote
Darth Havoc[TK] Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 Great work so far Joe. My thigh build was worse than my ears for my bucket. Armor looks good. The hand plates are facing the correct way, just trim the lip edge around the front off. I would finish the thighs and then start the strapping. Once you start the strapping it will pull everything where it needs to sit, like the back plate and biceps and butt plate. You can also attach the plastic shoulder straps to the chest plate. Add the straps on the shoulder bells that wrap around the biceps and attach the clip on the biceps to hold the strap. I also added a snap on the inside rear of the bicep and another in the shoulder bell and attached a piece of elastic to both. This will keep the biceps up and they won't fall down and give you an armor bite. Great job so far Quote
Darth Havoc[TK] Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) Photobucket is not working. Damn tech Edited September 29, 2015 by Darth Havoc Quote
Trogdor[TK] Posted October 6, 2015 Author Report Posted October 6, 2015 Just a quick update. Ā Started on the strapping. Ā I am leaving enough return edges for the strap brackets but decided to do webbing "plates" with snaps. Ā Back, kidney and but are done. Ā Also trimmed off the extra edges on the hand guards (Thanks Jamie!). Ā I am starting on the layout for the Snaps and rivets on the torso/cod. I have the thighs mocked up but I am not sure how much space to leave and where on the knee the front goes. Ā I know the screen used suits had the lower edge behind the knee removed for more mobility... Ā I am getting closer... Ā I am thinking of setting the halloween deadline to try and sprint to the finish. Quote
Darth Havoc[TK] Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 No thanks needed. I'll try to DL a pic of my legs for reference. With the shins, make sure your boots are on as it will push them up slightly and may affect the thigh placement Quote

Trogdor[TK] Posted October 6, 2015 Author Report Posted October 6, 2015 Thanks. I'm gluing inner coverstrips on the thigh fronts. On at a time as I don't have enough magnets. I'll then suit up again and see where things fall. Quote
Trogdor[TK] Posted October 6, 2015 Author Report Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) Ok looking at the cover strips this might be a screw up. Is this too much shoulder under the thigh cover strip. I am trying to build to advanced tactics. <imgsrc="http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll183/trogdor1881/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsiqde77fd.jpeg" alt="image_zpsiqde77fd.jpeg"> Edited October 6, 2015 by Trogdor Quote
Darth Havoc[TK] Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 In shoulder, do you mean the flat surface that the cover strip is over?Ā If so, there should be no flat area present. Ā If you look at my pics, due to my thigh size, I had to leave a flat portion in the front.Ā With that, I made sure that the flat portions were identical on both sides of the cover strip for both thighs.Ā I did build my kit to EIB/Cent standards but because of the kit's chest and back armor and my sides not coming together (beer) I cannot get approved for them.Ā In all honesty, theĀ thighsĀ look great but I'll let some of the vets chime in as I would hate to see you tear them apart for no reason.Ā I also looked at the CRL and if you look at the right thigh, it looks like it has a small flat portion showing near the top of the thigh.Ā Quote
Trogdor[TK] Posted October 6, 2015 Author Report Posted October 6, 2015 Sorry to all reading this I guess I can't correctly post inline images from iOS. I'll edit back at the pic soon. Quote

Darth Havoc[TK] Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/tutorials/article/22-howto-assemble-thighs-butt-join-with-cover-strips/Ā Here is a great build thread.Ā I looks like there is again a very small flat portion on this as well.Ā Like millimeter size.Ā Hope this helps Quote
starsaber25[Admin] Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Hey Joe from what I saw in that photobucket link it doesn't appear to me that you should have any problem with approval.Ā Its not like its that outrageous.Ā Again I'm not an expert but it looks okay to me! Quote
starsaber25[Admin] Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Oh and also looking at your test photos it looks like you might want to trim more of the butt plate and ab plate.Ā That looks like it may be too much of a return edge and I can only imagine that is not comfortable.Ā This armor is not comfortable as it is and you shouldn't want to add to it by not trimming more. Quote
Trogdor[TK] Posted October 7, 2015 Author Report Posted October 7, 2015 Steve, Ā Thanks for the quick reply. Hey Joe from what I saw in that photobucket link it doesn't appear to me that you should have any problem with approval.Ā Its not like its that outrageous.Ā Again I'm not an expert but it looks okay to me! I am pretty sure your closer to an expert than I am. Also you have built to the high standards so it mean a lot. Ā I am getting ready to shim the thigh backs so if I was going to have to pull it apart now would be the time. Ā I have the thighs set so there is about a fingers worth of space. So I won't have a ton of room to play with. Ā Oh and also looking at your test photos it looks like you might want to trim more of the butt plate and ab plate.Ā That looks like it may be too much of a return edge and I can only imagine that is not comfortable.Ā This armor is not comfortable as it is and you shouldn't want to add to it by not trimming more. The biggest issue I had was the fit. Ā Even the wife commented it did't look right. Ā I have trimmed a lot off since then, I will have new test fit shots this weekend If all goes to plan. Ā I have all my magnets and clamps tied up right now so I hope to have all inner strips done by the weekend. Quote

I'll give it a bit before I start with the Apoxie sculpt. Though with both you and Steve chiming in I'm feeling better. Quote
Darth Havoc[TK] Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 no worries... Steve is correct and better at this than me. Ā I got beat up over the angled corners of my belt. Ā No place in the CRL does it state that the trimmed edge should not go past the canvas part of the belt, but i digress. Ā Sorry if i'm a little cautious and i'd defer to the vets like Steve. Ā Your build is coming along nicely.Ā Quote
Trogdor[TK] Posted October 7, 2015 Author Report Posted October 7, 2015 I tore them apart. Ā The upside is my plastic cutting skills are getting better so I was able to trim little amounts off and get it close. Ā I will say I have no good method for removing dried e6000, just rubbing with a scrap piece of plastic. I probably could have "gotten away with it but I would hate for it to get called out in a review. Ā Although I want to stand next to you guys and blend in I have to remember the suits aren't supposed to be perfect. They are getting glued up again now. Ā I'll post some pictures tonight. Quote
