allan1313[TK] Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 A word of caution to the FNGs in particular ... Hopefully you all aren't expecting a quick turnaround. With the flood of orders, I'd be surprised to see these kits ship en masse before Christmas. From my discussions with the ANOVOS production manager this weekend, I get the impression that they are still working out the mass production details. So when they say "Winter 2015", keep in mind that can be interpreted as anywhere from Dec '15 - Mar '16. "Patience" will be the watchword. I figured as much. With all the other stuff and work I will need, I was hoping to be fully "completed" by the end of next year. Thanks for the heads up. Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 I just had a thought. Obviously this is a move to make armor more accessible to people. Sure, there was Rubies and Efx etc. but they were poor on quality or accuracy or catered to collectors for use as display statues, etc. From a legal standpoint, does this "help" Lucasfilm / Disney in future legal battles with the like of SDS etc.? Now they have an accessible and available maker that can out price the likes of SDS etc. My other fear is would this put Disney in a position to legally go after hobby armor makers? There's been a decent number of legal pursuits, cease and decist etc, on ebay, the RPF etc. for properties like Spider-man, Iron Man etc. I hope this isn't the case. I think there will always be a need for specialists armor makers as some fans may want something specific like screen lineage, or other details that Anovos might not be able to provide. I think the fan community should be included on staff for ANOVOS. 1 Quote
Novak Dimon[TK] Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 At last I was unable to resist and placed an order for a kit too. It will be my first armor but I'm in no hurry to get it. Until delivery I will continue to learn from all the experienced troopers here and get all the small bits I may need for later EIB or higher approval. 1 Quote

Comfy Turtle Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 Went ahead a placed a order for a kit, while still waiting on ATAs armor for July. so at the very least i'll have a spare helmet. i'll admit i was tempted to get the completed version but since i'm only 5'4 anyway i figured i'll have to modify it alot anyway. with this and my order for TK boots and a wait list for a E-11 kit i'm well on my way. WhiteNight[TK] Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 This really sounds almost too good to be true, still I had to order one kit anyway... Quote
Irish_Jedi Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 Is there a limit to how many kits you can order? Does it make sense to consider ordering a second kit and attempting to make a Sandtrooper or would the experts here recommend starting from a different basis point? @ Comfy Turtle, which E-11 Kit did you decide on? Tehcaveman stated he ordered 3+, doubt there's a limit unless you see a disclaimer somewhere. From what I've gathered from the officers over at the MEPD this kit will most likely be ok for Police, though it will probably need some modifications if you choose to go for SWAT. Yes, from what we know, I don't see any reason why it would not be approvable for Police Officer with the proper mods, as any TK kit. For SWAT, well, that would have to be an evaluation made individually as all SWAT submissions. But, if the kit is really near what we see on the prototype, with the proper mods and parts, and extra gear, you can have an armor to work up your way to SWAT. Saludos. 2 Quote
td1524[TK] Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) I ordered the kit at Celebration...the special was free shipping if ordered at the show .... I know 7 other of my friends did too. The soft goods alone would total over $125.00 to buy ala carte. Not to mention the helmet assembley has value.... $350.00 is a great deal and I do not think Anovos, a newly licensed company for Star Wars products, knowing how critical the fans and 501st is would risk their reputation on creating a bad non approvable armor. They would shoot them self in the foot if they do not do a quality TK here. Just like the new movies...you will never satisfy everyone. I am sure there will be people complaining because they like to complain about life, but even if you display it its a great deal or pass it on to someone else or Zombie TK it.....whatever. The price only last till May 4 and then it goes to $650.00. Still a good price, but not the steal at $350.00. As far as approvable, I know the pics are protypes, but they said at they booth at celebration, those are the pics of THEIR suit not a ATA or Moncal...they look great. I have a TE2 kit and love it. This was just something I couldnt pass on at this price. Time will tell and at this price its worth the risk. Flip it if you dont like it..... This is a great deal. Anovos said they needed a special promotion for Celebration and to really get some product out. By the way........6'1" is really the max height....if you are taller it will be really tought to fit or even get into. Quoted from the Anovos people. That is why they have height standards on the site... I Edited April 23, 2015 by td1524 Quote

I kinda has me concerned but i'm really at the opposite side of that spectrum. in that since i'm only 5'4 if only trimming some bits down would be enough, i never found any of the sizes on there chart fit me in all categorys so i compromised at large suit large gloves. TK-42134[TK] Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 I am 6'2". I am 95% sure I'd like to preorder this Armor. But if the guys at Avonos say that 6'1" is the max, is it worth still trying out? How much modifications would I have to do to make it right for me to wear? Ive been researching armor and it is giving me a headache, and figured that the Avonos Armor was the way to go. Quote

iconoclasta_88[501st] Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) For what I have seen, the most difficult thing to nail for taller troopers, is the ab/chest... cause, if you are tall enought, since the ab and kidney plates will only go up so much without hurting down there... and if the chest cant come down enough to meet the ab, you will have a very visible gap that will be VERY difficult to shim if not impossible, unless you really modify the whole thing or replace a part of two with larger parts as AM for example. You don't want to look like some of those guys wearing the Rubies armor on the joke videos on internet. http://www.starwarshelmets.com/2008/2008_Rubies_sup_trooper2.jpg Thats what I am guessing anyway. Don't really know if there are other issues with size. Saludos Edited April 23, 2015 by iconoclasta_88 Quote

hon143 Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) If it's true that ANOVOS is charging ppl's credit cards at time of the pre-order and not when it ships out, it would appear that they're doing this "special" in order to maybe get working capital/liquid assets to start this venture. And, to perhaps get a gauge on demand. Seems like a great deal. But, it would worry me a bit since they can technically file bankruptcy and keep everyone's money! Since it would be months (perhaps next year even) later, ppl couldn't even file a grievance with the credit card company for a charge back since they only allow 3-6 months. Sorry, I haven't spent much time researching E-11s because they've been a bit out of my total budget for a while. That's going to change with the savings that the Anovos kit will net me, but I don't know what you mean by police or swat. Is this in terms of who's going to let you carry the weapon in public or is it something else? Edited April 23, 2015 by CommanderZel 1 Quote
TyTimp Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 I have the FX armor with an ATA bucket. I've made the modifications for 501st approval but I would love to have more accurate armor. If the FX armor can be approved, I don't see why this wouldn't it it stays true to the photos. I'm very tempted to place an order. Or save my money and put it towards an Epidoe 7 armor. Although that will be a lot more expensive. Quote
ukswrath[Staff] Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 Police and SWAT are costume accuracy levels for Sandtroopers, similar to the EIB and Centurion levels for Stormtroopers. 1 Quote
CommanderZel Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 Oh, okay. Just different worlds, then. Thanks for the clarification! 1 Quote
