I just got an email about this new Stormtrooper armor from Anovos, pre-order pricing is just 350 with a completed helmet and armor kit. I haven't gotten a chance to look very closely, but this looks like a nice looking custom sculpt.

Got the email too.  Big difference in price between assembled and kit form.  Will the armor have to be in hand before being considered for 501st and FISD approval?

thats not their sculpt.

they put pictures up of someone else's kit for the initial sale.

I don't know which that is for the TK.  For the TI and ATAT they used Moncal's.

I got the email too. I'm tempted at the $350 price point. Hard to beat that if the sculpt is good.

That's the question.

how good will the sculpt be?

too bad they don't she THEIR sculpt before taking money.

I have a feeling there may be a lot more TK's coming out soon.  At that price in kit form with a completed helmet, depending on the quality, it doesn't look that bad.

I'm skeptical about buying something that I can't see though.  Everything is subject to change.

I paid $400 13 years ago for an old FX kit. That initial price is crazy low considering it includes neck seal, gloves, fabric belt, undersuit and completed helmet---none of which came with my original kit. If you have questions, I'll see what I can find out!

Just confirmed. The images shown are indeed ANOVOS original prototype pics, not someone else's work.

No mention of boots or blaster. I assume they are not included? Also it says all pieces are lined. With what? Is that for the kit as well as the finished armor? What is the strapping/fastening system like? It seems vague on that.

"Prototype depicted. Subject to change"...

When you're picky about how your kit looks, especially with the many variations on a TK helmet, it makes you a bit leary. But a $350 kit and quickly be put together and sold off if it wasn't what you were hoping for.

x3 construction markup for installing snaps/rivets/who knows what is kind of amazing too.

Does anyone know if their production kit has any screen lineage, or is it a new sculpt / 3d model etc.?

Combination of both. The ANOVOS panel at Celebration Anaheim may explain it in more detail, but there's 3D scanning, manipulation and then output to create new molds. These are idealized for wearability and aesthetics vs. "exact replicas."

Correct, due to current licensing, no boots or blaster for now. Not sure on the lining...perhaps some kind of mesh for a finished look?

I have not seen pics, but the strapping/fastening system is supposed to be a new type of underarmor that also includes attachment points to secure the armor pieces.

VERY interesting...that intro pricing on the kit is crazy low for what's included! Good work Anovos!

Pity they can't open it up to Australia as well, cause I recon there would be a few keen to jump on board.

They will in time. It's all business stuff they need to square away or else they'd obviously sell worldwide. :)

A few question- 1) did any of the lucky 50 going to C7 that got the new TK from anovos finish their builds? Have we seen the quality from any of those members yet?

2) will we be able to purchase the new TK before the movie releases from anovos

Not sure what you are talking about. See you all at SWCA!

When that time eventually comes, I really hope they will still offer the same Tiered Pricing to the expanded territories.

Gotta read the fine print on that pricing :(

It goes up to $1600 after Celebration.

After May 16, 2015 it states pricing subject to change so there is no telling what it will go to then...

I just had a thought. Obviously this is a move to make armor more accessible to people. Sure, there was Rubies and Efx etc. but they were poor on quality or accuracy or catered to collectors for use as display statues, etc.

From a legal standpoint, does this "help" Lucasfilm / Disney in future legal battles with the like of SDS etc.? Now they have an accessible and available maker that can out price the likes of SDS etc.

My other fear is would this put Disney in a position to legally go after hobby armor makers? There's been a decent number of legal pursuits, cease and decist etc, on ebay, the RPF etc. for properties like Spider-man, Iron Man etc. I hope this isn't the case.

I think there will always be a need for specialists armor makers as some fans may want something specific like screen lineage, or other details that Anovos might not be able to provide.

Still very confused about what is part of the kit and what only comes with the finished suit. Do the parts in the kit have the lining? Is the mounting system the same for both finished and kit versions?

Also, what is the thickness of the ABS they are using? What is the largest head size for the helmet?

Posted

Panda trooper, I agree. I think it's only a matter of time before Disney starts to crack down on fan builders. I don't think they will be as forgiving as LFL has always been. They have clearly showed their willingness to go after people making Marvel items. But it took them a few years after they purchased the company to do it. I expect within a couple of years the C&D letters will start going out.

As far as I know, none outside of anovos knows that. Relax.
