justjoseph63[Staff] Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Good Heavens, yet more confusion! I have been (honestly) searching for the most recommended method of securing the backs of shins and wrists. AM armor no longer uses the overlap method, and has gone to the butt/cover method (thankfully). I am thinking that the sew-on snap hook method would work better, as Velcro can wear out and have to be replaced, and they could be replaced easier. Is there a thread that shows exactly how these attach, and where. Detailed photos would be awesome. As always, thanks for bearing with me! Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 First...to eliminate one concern......your forearms are glued on both upper and lower seams. For the calf closure, the most popular us the original method using a small strap and a metal hook that hoes into small holes drilled into the opposite side as seen here Quote
justjoseph63[Staff] Posted February 1, 2015 Author Report Posted February 1, 2015 Thanks for the info! I am assuming that the hole in the ABS does not go all the way through. And, is it a big pain to attach the center snap? Quote
I'm Batman[501st] Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 They're not snaps. They're hooks. Sort of like bra hooks. The holes do go all the way through, and yes, they were a pain to use for me. I changed and went to Velcro. Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I use the "original" hook method on mine. The only issue I originally had was getting the bottom of my right shin to stay closed. Ultimately, I bent the hook a little bit so that it holds onto the armor better, and it stays beautifully now. Of course, now it is a pain in the butt to take it off, but it stays closed while I'm trooping!! 2 Quote

That was my problem - either easy to get and off on but would come apart while trooping, of pain in the butt to get on and off to be secure while wearing... Couldn't find the happy medium. 1 Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 I found it, thankfully. LoL Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Hook closure doesn't work all that well on thicker armour. But use it on a 1.5 mm TM or RS suit and you'll love it. I have it on my 2mm TM, but I never take them off because I'm slim enough I can slide my foot through the top and just let the elastics expand and contract. 1 Quote
troopermaster Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 The hook closure works extremely well on 1.5mm ABS armour as Mathias says. Quote
justjoseph63[Staff] Posted February 2, 2015 Author Report Posted February 2, 2015 I have a strange question, if I may... Are these sorts of details supposed to keep you up at night, as they do me? I swear that when I go to bed, my mind races for at least 30 minutes wondering about all these details, and I haven't even received my armor yet! I am one who likes to be completely prepared, but these things haunt me, lol. Does the Empire medical plan offer counseling? Quote
