Jedisaber Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 So the day has finally come and I have received my kit in the mail. Ive had the helmet for a while but figured I would wait and do the whole thing at the same time. Nice and slow. Would love to have it done before Celebration next year which I am attending but I'm in no rush. 2 Quote
Jedisaber Posted November 21, 2014 Author Report Posted November 21, 2014 Big thanks to the guy over there at ATA Works. The kit came packed well enough and everything looks better than i imagined! Can't wait to start building! Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 Nothing better than a big brown box, good luck with the build Quote
Raintrooper Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 Good luck! Post lots of pics, and ask lots of questions! Quote
toybiz[TK] Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 Congrats and your timing couldn't be better. You have enough time to complete your build and get a troop in or two to work out the bite/pinch points. Have fun! Quote
Jedisaber Posted November 23, 2014 Author Report Posted November 23, 2014 I hope so, I'm going home on vacation for a month and won't be properly starting until january. Quote
russellr2d2[TK] Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 Good luck! Work slowly an you will be a real live TK before you know it. Just an hour ago I received an email from ATA works that my kit will be made next week. OHHH boy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Jedisaber Posted December 5, 2014 Author Report Posted December 5, 2014 just thought i would leave you guys with a pict before going on a month long christmas vacation. This is how i plan to sneak up on the rebels... Quote
Jedisaber Posted January 15, 2015 Author Report Posted January 15, 2015 Alright, so vacation is over and I've finally got the garage cleaned out enough so that I have a workspace. Time to get serious about this build. LETS BUY SOME STUFF! Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 If you are going to be serious you should have already bought stuff lol Looking forward to the build Quote
Jedisaber Posted January 16, 2015 Author Report Posted January 16, 2015 Well I have my kit already, just need to get the little stuff. Not rushing the build so Ive got plenty of time for it all to come in. Quote
Jedisaber Posted January 19, 2015 Author Report Posted January 19, 2015 Okay, I gotta ask, what the heck is a return edge? Quote
Pencap510 Posted January 19, 2015 Report Posted January 19, 2015 Hmmm.. Better get to reading up . Think of return edge as the "lip" on all of your armor pieces.. It adds depth to your armor in certain places. Some places you want it- chest, ab, back plate.. Some you do not- forearms, shins... Quote
Jedisaber Posted January 19, 2015 Author Report Posted January 19, 2015 I have been reading for months and months, just no one explains it. Everyone just says return edge. So its basically if another piece overlaps it. Like on the forearms and shins the strip you will use for the butt joint will be the same length as the plastic underneath? Flush on the end? Quote
Pencap510 Posted January 19, 2015 Report Posted January 19, 2015 Not really - if ya look at your armor (having not been trimmed yet) there should be a 90• degree bend on some of the armor. Look at the bottom of the chest plate for example - were it turns in- that's the return. Here's a pic-- Quote
Pencap510 Posted January 19, 2015 Report Posted January 19, 2015 See how the bottom of the chest - bends in- to add depth? You leave that return on some pieces- shave some of it off- or remove it all together- 1 Quote
Jedisaber Posted January 20, 2015 Author Report Posted January 20, 2015 Alright, finally got off my butt and finished the garage clean up. A week ago this whole corner was covered with boxes. Put up the cork and pegboard, threw a track light at the top, put some extra carpet on top of the counter so as not to scratch my armor during the build, and organized a whole mess of tools. Final product is a pretty nice work area. I was aally quite terrified to make my first cut into my armor. I have decided to focus on the bucket first in case i can't finish my build by Star Wars Celebration in April. I was actually quite terrified to make my first cut into my armor. This counts right? It actually wasn't as bad as I thought. Was a little uneasy about trimming so I probably didn't take off as much as I should have. Didnt get much time in the garage today but I have a little more confidence now. Will put up some more picts tomorrow hopefully. 2 Quote
Jedisaber Posted January 23, 2015 Author Report Posted January 23, 2015 Not much progress but its something... moving along... Just marked the lines on the eyes and dremelled away! Dremel skills aren't that precise so i just took out the middle and score/snap the rest. Eyes finished! Teeth are next and I've got a bad feeling about this. Quote
Tusken RTT Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 Looking good! Keep the pics coming! Quote
Jedisaber Posted January 27, 2015 Author Report Posted January 27, 2015 Busy busy with work, but i was able to get my ear trimming started. Quote
I'm Batman[501st] Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Ahh, the ears. Everyone loves trimming the ears 1 Quote
Tolo[TK] Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 Ahh, the ears. Everyone loves trimming the ears sure we do.... Sent from my iPhone 6 using Tapatalk Quote
Jedisaber Posted February 1, 2015 Author Report Posted February 1, 2015 Of course Im going to hand paint my details, but where is a good place to buy the cutouts from? Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Use the reference pics from the "photo references" available as your guide. Draw out on the parts with pencil. Then, if you want, you can use a good quality masking tape. Trooperbay offers some templates. Quote
Jedisaber Posted February 2, 2015 Author Report Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) So i got to do some work in the garage, besides more ear trimming, which i forgot to take pictures of, i got started on the teeth. See below but I feel like they aren't the same size on both sides of the AT helmet, and I don't want to file more because there isn't much left for depth on the right.
