KaitoTrooper[TK] Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 Ladies and gentleman! Come closer, rest for a while and watch me trying to build a Stormtrooper! I thought, it would be time to open a new thread, because now my work starts At frist let me show you again the line up on my build: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Armour and helmet: CFO (qee) In addition I will buy the strapping pack and the white armour trim, too, from him. Neckseal and holster: Darman Gloves: Ebay Boots: From Francouis; they need white colour on the sole Under suit: My parents print T-Shirts so I get the parts from them. Blaster: Kai (TI 6815) (Big Thank you, Kai!) As tools I already have a lot of different blades (exacto knife included) and a (quite shucksty) dremel. To glue the parts I will use E6000 (I will have to practise with that before I start). Now to the parts I still need to research: - I have now plan how to trim my armour, so I will have a look on this. - Reference pictures should not be a real problem. - And last but not least assembling the armour. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At first I want to apologize. I recieved the BBB last week, but I did not have time to update But here it is! And this is what was inside. Mark did already assemble the helmet, thank you for this! To my pity, one lense popped out because of the shipping, but two dots of hot glue later, I have restored the bucket's beauty. And then I did something, I could not resist to do That should be all for now. Assembling will start in December (I am soo scared of it). Cheers Felix 3 Quote
KaitoTrooper[TK] Posted November 21, 2014 Author Report Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) I am sorry for double posting, but I forgot something. While I had school, my parents ordered me a constrution helmet (did I write it right?). The inside popped out nicely and fits perfect into my bucket! Just needs to be glued. The5thHorseman[501st] Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 I'll be following this. There's almost no ROTJ build threads around. About reference pictures, there are few excellent and very interesting pictures about the strapping used for ROTJ in the newly released book "Star Wars Costumes: the Original Trilogy". If you haven't seen them or don't have the book, i can send them to you by PM if you're interested. Quote
KaitoTrooper[TK] Posted November 21, 2014 Author Report Posted November 21, 2014 I am interested! I was thinking about buying it, but i kinda messed it up. Sent from the shield generator on Endor Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 Very exciting stuff Felix!! Will be following along also. Nothing quite as exciting as brown boxes - outside of putting on that bucket, eh? Quote
Tolo[TK] Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 Looking forward to this build. Sent from my iPhone 6 using Tapatalk Quote
KaitoTrooper[TK] Posted November 21, 2014 Author Report Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) I am looking forward either! Oh and "I cannot see a thing in this helmet" Sent from the shield generator on Endor Edited November 21, 2014 by KaitoTrooper Quote
troopermaster Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 You can have flat lenses in your ROTJ helmet if the vision is not good through your bubbled lenses. Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 Looking forward to the progress Quote
K@nne[TK] Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Ohh Felix I am a bit jealous But I am very glad that you already received your amour. I just thinking about ordering the helmet to have some work during christmas holidays I saw you ordered the strapping package. One question, do you have a instruction how to install the strapping package? Looking forward to the progress. We need some more ROTJ TK´s :-P Edited November 22, 2014 by K@nne Quote
troopermaster Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 Felix, Your helmet liner is facing the wrong way. The sweatband goes to the front and the adjuster goes to the back of the helmet Quote
KaitoTrooper[TK] Posted November 22, 2014 Author Report Posted November 22, 2014 @K@nne: The strapping package comes with a diagram drawn by someone wo actually wore the suit on set. Contact Mark if you want to know more about it @TM: Yeah, I noticed that, too What I find disturbing is, that it actually came like that inside the construction helmet. KaitoTrooper[TK] Posted December 9, 2014 Author Report Posted December 9, 2014 (edited) Ok, Everything is placed on the floor (the legs are on the wrong side, i know ). I think, I can start trimming soon. But for now I am a little confused. Call me stupid, but I thought that glueing the pieces together would work with these plastic stripes. But in the CRLs it says "overlapping method". How does that work? Don't worry, I am going to look it up when I can, but a little hint would be great Cheers Felix Sent from the shield generator on Endor Edited December 9, 2014 by KaitoTrooper Quote
ex507 Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 I'll follow! Never really checked out a rotj build. Exciting! Quote
The5thHorseman[501st] Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) The overlap method means you don't use any cover stripes to join the halves together but the pieces themselves. Here's a quick diagram and a reference pic to explain the differences between the both: Edited December 10, 2014 by The5thHorseman 1 Quote
KaitoTrooper[TK] Posted December 10, 2014 Author Report Posted December 10, 2014 Thank you! So when I start trimming, I should keep in mind that I need some extra plastic? Sent from the shield generator on Endor Quote
The5thHorseman[501st] Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 So when I start trimming, I should keep in mind that I need some extra plastic? Definitely! Basically, i think you can trim the two front ridges directly to the standard size (i.e: around 15mm for the biceps and forearms, and 20mm for shins and thighs) and then leave some extra plastic at the back to adjust the amount needed for a good overlap depending on your body. In the end, the main difference with the cover stripe method is: to obtain a 15mm join, you trim the two ridges to 7mm both and once assembled it makes 15mm; but with overlap you trim the two ridges directly to 15mm and glue them one upon another. troopermaster Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 (To be noted, at the back of the tighs, forearms, etc... there's no molded ridge but the principle remains the same). Incorrect! All limb armour has moulded overlaps built into them on ROTJ armour. 1 Quote
The5thHorseman[501st] Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) Incorrect! All limb armour has moulded overlaps built into them on ROTJ armour. It makes sense, as ROTJ based kits have these ridges at the back of the limbs. Should have think twice before speaking. Live and learn! Edited December 10, 2014 by The5thHorseman Quote
KaitoTrooper[TK] Posted December 14, 2014 Author Report Posted December 14, 2014 Well that's good news! Prepare to recieve tons of pictures until Christmas I am currently getting experience in cutting plastic (man, 1,5mm are tough!) and I've also glued the liner inside the helmet. It's the small parts, that build up my confidence and I caught myself today trying to fit some parts on me and realizing where they need to be trimmed to fit me well. I'm out for today, doing some testing how the strapping is set up. Cheers Sent from the shield generator on Endor Quote
KaitoTrooper[TK] Posted December 14, 2014 Author Report Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) Note to myself. NEVER use Patex on plastic again. Luckyly the plastic on the helmet isn't completely eaten up, but it is very thin on the spot where I placed patex to fix the liner I am stupid. Will have to wait until E6000 arrives and place it on the exact spot. Hopefully it does not break through and leave a hole in the helmet Sent from the shield generator on Endor Edited December 14, 2014 by KaitoTrooper Quote
KaitoTrooper[TK] Posted December 17, 2014 Author Report Posted December 17, 2014 So I just started to draw some lines for trimming. Before I start cutting, I would like to ask you for your opinion. As you see there are two lines. I would suggest trimm on the upper one. Do you agree with me? Sent from the shield generator on Endor Quote
The5thHorseman[501st] Posted December 21, 2014 Report Posted December 21, 2014 Hum, i don't know. For ANH i would tend to say "preserve the return edge" and thus use the bottom trim line, however ROTJ has that white gasket that goes all around the armor's edges, so i guess you're right and you should indeed use the upper trim line. Quote
KaitoTrooper[TK] Posted December 21, 2014 Author Report Posted December 21, 2014 By looking at Mark's trimming I am now conviced that the upper line is the right one. I should read more carefully Sent from the shield generator on Endor Quote
