charlesnarles Posted November 12, 2014 Report Posted November 12, 2014 Just looking for some feedback after finally cutting out the teeth and eyes. I know I've still got some filing/sanding to do. http://s1369.photobucket.com/user/charlesnarles/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsf40e1f5a.jpg.html?o=4 I was trying to make it look kinda like how the on-screen stunts were trimmed. http://s1369.photobucket.com/user/charlesnarles/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps5ade9613.jpg.html?o=3 I liked the look of the sharper, more rhombus-shaped teeth that follow the frown's angles. http://s1369.photobucket.com/user/charlesnarles/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpscce2e4b3.jpg.html?o=2 Here you can see how easily the black paint I used scratches off. Around the eyes I put a pencil line where it looked like the flashing ended which seemed like where Pandatrooper cut too. Should I go ahead and trim to that line if I want to keep the on-screen stunt look? http://s1369.photobucket.com/user/charlesnarles/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsaf7272ab.jpg.html?o=1 There's still a lot of plastic around the eyes, but I was scared to cut too much off and give it a surprised expression. http://s1369.photobucket.com/user/charlesnarles/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps1f8f09e2.jpg.html?o=0 I also got the ears down to roughly the right shape. Just need to fit the brow trim on and I can actually start fitting the face and cap together. Pretty exciting business Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted November 12, 2014 Report Posted November 12, 2014 You have a lot more to trim out of the eye openings and teeth. Quote
Pale Rider[TK] Posted November 13, 2014 Report Posted November 13, 2014 Hi Scott, I've cut out four ATA faceplates now. I've found that the visible indent on the inside of the faceplate around the eyes is a pretty good guide for cutting the eyes down. I marked mine with pencil before cutting just to make sure I didn't lose sight of the line mid-cut. I used a dremel with a cutting wheel to do this. Trust me, it doesn't make your helmet look more surprised. Jamie 1 Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted November 13, 2014 Report Posted November 13, 2014 A pic of the eye cut out ridge Quote
charlesnarles Posted November 13, 2014 Author Report Posted November 13, 2014 After watching TK4510DECALS' YouTube videos of building a TE2, I see that the eyes are different and I won't be able to replicate the on-screen look with an ATA too effectively. So I'll just try to make it as clean as possible and follow that pencil/mold line. I'll take more off the teeth too Quote
charlesnarles Posted December 24, 2014 Author Report Posted December 24, 2014 I riveted it so the brow is awfully low. Looking at that pic of a pile of the original unfinished buckets, I don't think it's outrageous, just lower than I had intended. What do you think? I'm still filing the teeth out, I like the holes to follow the frown a bit more than Panda's twinkies. The eyes might be done tho, eh? Also, is it normal to have such a gap where the ears will go? You can see some big ugly cuts I'm stuck with, too😕 http://s1369.photobucket.com/user/charlesnarles/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps54d2ab36.jpg.html http://s1369.photobucket.com/user/charlesnarles/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps761f41d5.jpg.html Merry Xmas/ happy holidays, everybody Quote
Polar Posted December 24, 2014 Report Posted December 24, 2014 Eyes look great! The ATA bucket is a bit wierd during the process but comes out spectacular when all done. The ears will cover that gap when you " suck it in" with the screws. Quote
charlesnarles Posted January 15, 2015 Author Report Posted January 15, 2015 How do these ears look? Trying not to trim too much, they're my last ear set. Right ear front: Right ear back: Left ear front: Left ear back: Quote
charlesnarles Posted January 15, 2015 Author Report Posted January 15, 2015 The right ear has to be at that weird angle to cover my noob giant S cut on my cap'n'back. Not sure how the trim will fit on with that in mind. Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 You have your shaping done well. They are still a bit thick, though. I'd take a bit more off Quote
charlesnarles Posted January 21, 2015 Author Report Posted January 21, 2015 Got my ears screwed on. Need to sand, just wondering what to do about trimming the opening for the s trim. What do you guys think? Right ear looks big from the back: Thanks for looking Quote
charlesnarles Posted April 23, 2015 Author Report Posted April 23, 2015 It's been a while! Couldn't resist starting to paint it. Everything needs to be touched up with a toothpick and thinner, but it's just the first coat of grey. Right side of the frown looks pretty good for ANH imho: Left side needs a tiny bit more white, eh?: Quote
charlesnarles Posted April 23, 2015 Author Report Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) Compared to other buckets (especially the new Anovos TK) I've decided that my ears look fine. Looks like my rear traps might go too far over the lower ridge according to starwarshelmets.com. I was following my Dave M templates so who knows how I managed to mess it up, lol Edited April 23, 2015 by charlesnarles Quote
