TK18022[TK] Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and just wanted any and all advice on my build. I just ordered a complete set of armour and helmet with accessories from RS Props. I'm 5'11 and around 170. Will it meet 501st standards or will I have some fixing to do? I decided to let them build it since I wouldn't have time due to my son's illness. I got the suit for charity reasons mainly but would also like to join. So any advice will be appreciated. Thanks. Nagedzi[TK] Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 RS Propmasters make beautiful armour. Provided they build according to your specifications, you shouldn't have much problem getting approved. Your height and weight is perfect for TK armour. With that said, there is always a chance you will have to make adjustments to get everything "just right". Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 As Andy has already said, you have chosen a beautiful set of armour, but you just won't know until you try it on for the first time. Be sure to post a few photos before you put your application in so we can give comment if anything needs adjusting. The four best shots to post would be , Front, back and left and right sides, all full length. Quote
TK18022[TK] Posted October 25, 2014 Author Report Posted October 25, 2014 Well that makes me feel better! Thanks for the replies. I'll start posting pics as soon as I start getting boxes. I can't wait! Quote
TK18022[TK] Posted October 27, 2014 Author Report Posted October 27, 2014 Sent in my measurements today! I was thinking of adding voice and fans. Any suggestions? Also I wanted to black out the lid, but they said paint would alter the outside color. Is there a type of foam or liner I might be able to use instead? Quote
Bulldog44[TK] Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 Congrats on the RS purchase. They will do a great job assembling your armor. Ā Can't give you solid advice for the voice and fans, haven't tested mine yet. For the helmet lining, you could purchase a motorcycle helmet lining. I bought a helmet from RS assembled by them and the fit with the original padding and chin strap is actually quite comfortable. Ā Have fun when you get your armor! Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) I use an Aker 1506, plenty loud enough, am also trialling an icomm for the static burst sound. As for fans, Echo here for n the boards makes a great set up, otherwise you can make your own easily. Fans from evil bay, battery holders with built in on/off switches from RadioShack, along with some rechargeable batteries and your done. If you get two wire fans (red +,black -) you can't go wrong. TK18022[TK] Posted October 27, 2014 Author Report Posted October 27, 2014 Thanks guys! Bulldog, I was really going for a way to make the helmet dark (so light doesn't shine through and kids can't see up) not really comfort. Sly, can you post some pics of how you have yours set up? I would like to have the sound burst and correct sound. Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 Will send something through later on Ā Ā Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
TK18022[TK] Posted November 12, 2014 Author Report Posted November 12, 2014 Got the big brown boxes!!!!! This thing is amazing. RS Prop Masters is top notch! Ā It fits pretty good, although it is loose in the arm and leg areas. Ā Ā Ā Ā The helmet is gorgeous. Plenty of room and it feels pretty solid. Ā I had to add screen mesh for the mouth and a wireless mic. i took apart the receiver to lower its profile. I also lined it with some felt to give it the real look and hide the mic receiver.Ā I put the aker amp and Icomm in the chest. It definitely works. i really like the static burst feature. Ā Ā After that i put foam in the loose areas to tighten it up a bit and not be so clanky. i knew it was part of the risk buying it it per-assembled. but i still think they did a great job. Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā It definitely fits better now. Ā Oh and i cant forget the blaster and some close up of the details. Ā Ā Ā So this is where I'm at. I would like to get 501st approved and go all the way to Centurion. Just wanted to get some pointers and tips on anything else i could do to get me there. Thanks any help would be very appreciated. 1 Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted November 12, 2014 Report Posted November 12, 2014 You'll be glad of the litle bit of extra room in the thighs when it comes to walking around. They look just right. I have built thighs too snug in the past and they can get quite uncomfortable. A bit of slack allows them too move upwhen you flex your knee and this pevents pinching in the ara behind the knee.Congratulations. The armour looks great. Quote
The5thHorseman[501st] Posted November 12, 2014 Report Posted November 12, 2014 There are few things that can be improved but as Rich says, the armor looks already great! Ā One common thing is the fact you are wearing your shoulder bells reversed. At the bottom of the middle ridge, one of the shoulder bell has a flare, this is the one that goes on the left/hand shoulder. Ā The other one has none and goes on the right/hand shoulder, like the trooper below: Ā Also, you can shave a bit more on the right side of your abdominal plate. This will make the male snap at the top to be located at the right distance from the edge: Ā I can see on one of your pic that your left shin has ridden over the top of your boot so you might need to check for a way to prevent that in case it would happen to often. Ā And even if on your pictures where you have had padding to your armor it looks better, on your first set of pics your drop boxes are all over the place. Their outer edge should be aligned with the end of the ABS belt. Basically when you snap the belt to the ab plate, just make sure the elastic of the drop boxe is stuck between the outer rivet and the snap on the inside. Quote
TK18022[TK] Posted November 12, 2014 Author Report Posted November 12, 2014 Thanks guys. If your talking about the first set of pic,i put the arms on wrong and switched it in the later pics. I know those drop boxes move a lot. I was thinking of getting them in the right spot and puttind a stitch in the belt. I'll check into trimming that side. Just don't want to take off too much in case I get a lil bigger around the mid section. I could definitely use some practice on putting the suit on and adjusting it just right. Once again thanks for the replies. Any more? Quote
