RS Helmet sponge

Could some one help me out by posting a picture of the sponge that goes into the lid on an RS helmet and possibly give some measurements for it.

I've got some sponge to make a lining but not 100% on what shape and size this should be.

Thanks it would be good to compare the sizes, its for my RS lid so would be nice to use theirs if it differs.

I use a larger version and it completely covers the screws  thanks marv... I make tons of foam liners if anybody wants one.

John, sorry it took so long... IT's only in my basement, not like I had to walk 3 miles in the snow to get this...

 

I went a little overkill, especially since this isn't a real, screen used sweaty smells 36 year old helmet sponge.... but at least you'll have everything you need for measurements.. I hope.

What do you guys use to cut the stuff. Just had a go and its come out pretty messy (Scissors used)?

Box knife.

 

The foam shouldn't be very solid, it's basically the cheap non-dense foam. If you're using the dense, pillow/bed type foam it will be hard to cut, but regardless, box knife is the way to go if you don't like the scissors.

I make a template out of cardboard and press down on the foam. then a box cutter does the trick

Both of these seem a bit overkill.... but what good are we if we don't go a little overboard sometimes!

there is a company that uses a water jet to cut foam.  For all those who follow Tim the tool man taylor.   binford has helmet foam cutting tools 1200 usd

My band saw is very fine toothed for detail woodworking. It goes through foam like butter with accuracy.

where do you buy this foam sponges? can I just use motorcycle helmet insulation

costuming accuracy uses 1" tan foam. you can find this at JO ANN'S fabrics
