robt1275 Posted August 3, 2014 Report Posted August 3, 2014 Jings!! I'm blown away with this. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:391664 Think I'll give it a go while I'm building a vacuum table. I'll post my results here. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted August 3, 2014 Report Posted August 3, 2014 robert. don't make that 3d printed helmet. it is not a good enough file to join the 501st. at least i would not do it. just look at the makers on this thread. making your own will cost you hundreds more, maybe eve thousands more. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/ and this is what real helmets look like. robt1275 Posted August 3, 2014 Author Report Posted August 3, 2014 Hey Vern. Yeah, from what I've read I kinda guessed that the 3d printed helmet won't make the 501st cut, but I'm interested to see how it would turn out. I've been in touch with RS Propmasters but I'm still thinking about building my own - always been a built not bought chap.... Might change my mind when it all goes wrong..... ha ha ha Quote

Totally agree with Vern, but hey if you want to try to build a lid theres nothing stopping you Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted August 3, 2014 Report Posted August 3, 2014 Nothing to add. If you're wanting to join the Legion, RS is a very viable option! If you want to test your mettle with the 3D printer... Have fun with it. LoL Quote
Arnie_DK[TK] Posted August 3, 2014 Report Posted August 3, 2014 Do it, just for the fun of it. It may turn out okay. But for costuming/legion wise... What the others said Quote
hjmediastudios Posted August 4, 2014 Report Posted August 4, 2014 I've worked a lot with 3D printing and I honestly don't think anything that's printed would be comparable to a vacuum-formed product. On the other hand, I could see 3D printing be excellent to produce a form for vacuum-forming or molding, especially with some touch-up, or to produce some of the finicky little details that are hard to come by normally. TK bondservnt[501st] Posted August 4, 2014 Report Posted August 4, 2014 back to topic. please do not clone this sculpt. if we are awash with low quality we will all lose out. we must maintain high standards or we don't belong in the legion Quote
walt[501st] Posted August 4, 2014 Report Posted August 4, 2014 Hey vern....is this not the people that used TM as a reference for the 3d print??.... And yes buy one or do it your self Thats how we roll Quote
Arnie_DK[TK] Posted August 4, 2014 Report Posted August 4, 2014 Isnt the goal of all this to have fun? Quote
robt1275 Posted August 4, 2014 Author Report Posted August 4, 2014 Isnt the goal of all this to have fun? +1 on that. Maybe my comments have been misconstrued. I wouldn't use the 3d printed helmet as a part of my armour, I never said I would. As far as I'm concerned I'm printing it as I bit of fun and for comparison. No doubt there may be a point in time where a 3d printed armour will be of an accepted quality. Please be assured that any armour or helmet I make will be scratch built and, obviously, I will document this. Quote
DizzyStormtrooper[501st] Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 looks like somehow someone got the digital file for the set for stun trooper and just copied the right side over to the left to get rid of the crushed tube and eye bump Quote
