PGHtoolman Posted August 4, 2014 Author Report Posted August 4, 2014 A TK in Garrison Carida wanted to see some of the improvements in the new AM armor. I thought some more people would like as well. Left Arm Right Arm Chest Quote
PGHtoolman Posted August 5, 2014 Author Report Posted August 5, 2014 FYI: I have two left shins as well. Trooper Gear is all over it trying to figure it out. Quote

PGHtoolman Posted August 25, 2014 Author Report Posted August 25, 2014 After Lord Vader had me TAD (temporary additional duty) for a few weeks I am back at it. Mighty Tank came through as promised and new shins arrived. I was able to get the helmet together, and like a lot of people the left side gave me a little trouble but I got it together. Today I got the arms sized, trimmed, and ready for coverstrips plus E6000 fist the helmet now the arms tomorrow is onto the legs. Quote
I'm Batman[501st] Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Coming along Tim. A couple of observations. Is that your undersuit? It looks quite large around your chest, shoulders and arms which in turn makes it hard to see what the true fit on you is like. Also on that, the black on black in those last two shots also make it hard to see where things are so makes it hard to offer any suggestions. It looks like you need to rotate your biceps around more. And lastly, no point hiding your face. You can't stay anonymous as you need a bucket off shot when you apply for approval. Quote
PGHtoolman Posted August 26, 2014 Author Report Posted August 26, 2014 I am hoping to use that at my undersuit for now. Compression ware makes me feel like I can't breathe. The first smile you will see is my approval shot. The rotation of the biceps was a bugger for me. I bet I looked at fifty photos to try and get it right. Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Looking good so far, you are a little further ahead in your build than I am, good luck and have fun. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
PGHtoolman Posted August 26, 2014 Author Report Posted August 26, 2014 (edited) will this work for the eyes? http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Safety-Face-Shield-Replacement-Faceshield-Standard/_/R-SAS5152_0006418023 Edited August 26, 2014 by PGHtoolman Quote
PGHtoolman Posted August 26, 2014 Author Report Posted August 26, 2014 Got the shins done today. I have seen a lot of people have problems with puttings inside strips in the forearms and biceps. Are they needed? Also did some painting today. I would be a pro compared to the reference photos. Looks bad when I see some of the talent around here Quote
DroidHunter Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Looking good Tim. Technically, you don't need inner strip at all, only the outer cover strips. They just give added stress support. Quote
PGHtoolman Posted August 26, 2014 Author Report Posted August 26, 2014 That's what I thought. A big headache with little reward. I am doing it on the shin because of the stress from putting them on and off. Quote
PGHtoolman Posted September 1, 2014 Author Report Posted September 1, 2014 First thing: Helmet almost finished, I need fix the lens so it will not hit my nose anymore. Second thing: I wanted to see what I needed to do with the torso, I had my son help by looking at FISD and doing the best he could to tape me into it. This is what it would look like if Jaba the Hut tried on a TK uniform. Quote
PGHtoolman Posted September 6, 2014 Author Report Posted September 6, 2014 I have the 2 1/2" question. Cut bottom of back or top of kidney? Ab/cod is as hight as it can go, Top of Kidney lined up with to of ab. That makes the back 2 1/2" to high. Quote
Starfox2010 Posted September 6, 2014 Report Posted September 6, 2014 From what they've told me. Don't cut the kidney. Quote
PGHtoolman Posted September 7, 2014 Author Report Posted September 7, 2014 Problem for today is to keep the chest from opening a gap between the ab and chest I need to keep the ab as high as possible. Then looking at EIB aplications I see that the top of the kidney is in line with the top of the ab. Doing that makes a 2 1/2" gap off of the top of the back to my shoulder. Do I trim: A - the blue line and take the gap I need from the back? B - the red lines and split the difference between the back and the kidney? C - the green lines and split the difference between the top and bottom of the kidney? I understand to take a little at a time, I just don't know where to start. Quote
Starfox2010 Posted September 9, 2014 Report Posted September 9, 2014 Hey Tim, I think you have the kidney piece upside down, the curve side goes at the bottom. Can you move your ab and kidney piece up a bit? Quote
PGHtoolman Posted September 9, 2014 Author Report Posted September 9, 2014 I will try that and post some new photos, I also added some shims to the sides of the kidneys, that will also help with the sizing. Quote
PGHtoolman Posted December 9, 2014 Author Report Posted December 9, 2014 I have been side tract by life the past few months, but am getting back on track. My advisor and a few other TK's from Garrison Carida are going to give me a hand to finish up. I will post up photos as the work gets done. Quote
Starfox2010 Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 Sounds great, Tim. I know what you mean about the time, I've been trying to help my brother with his and its been difficult this time of year. Keep us posted. Quote
DroidHunter Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 Anything you need Tim, and you know we're here for you! Quote
PGHtoolman Posted December 9, 2014 Author Report Posted December 9, 2014 Thanks for the support guys, I will keep you updated. My plan is to be finished and approved so I can march in the Pittsburgh St. Patrick Day Parade. Quote
Scarlisian[TK] Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Tim, thanks for posting your build. I'm also a big guy and am waiting to get AM armor later this month. This is very informative. I look forward to your next update. Quote
PGHtoolman Posted December 17, 2014 Author Report Posted December 17, 2014 I will have some updated pictures soon. Working with my advisor and an armor master from Garrison Carida we made awesome progress last night. The back is now done, needed to cut about 2 1/2 " off the bottom and the wings that went under the arm over the kidney are gone. The chest needed some minor molding with a heat gun to get it to lay back on my chest enough. My homework before we meet again after the holidays is to get more snap plates done and my garters for the thighs. 1 Quote
Starfox2010 Posted December 18, 2014 Report Posted December 18, 2014 Looking good, Tim. Hey can you take extra pics of your shimming process, if possible?. I am working on my brother's armor and it seems to fit right on the dot right now, in the blue tape state, but may need some shimming done when it's time for the rivets. Quote
