I am trying to buy helmet padding, but would like to know, from personal experiences, what is the best type of padding for hot weather?

Down here in Houston it gets HOT, so I don't want to be scorching(although I plan on installing a fan system) in my bucket.

Im torn between the foam sticky back pads, trooperbays accurate helmet padding, baseball helmet padding, and MICH tactical helmet padding

Help please!

I would say the less padding the better!  I use emile1138's 2" foam squares and they work great!  I only use 9 or 10 of the 2" squares. 4 or 5 at the forehead, 2 or 3 at the back of the head, and one on each side to prevent wobbling.  You may or may not need padding at the top. The more open space there is in your bucket, the better the airflow to your entire head on those hot outdoor troops.  And yes, fans are a must for almost any outdoor temperature!  While the baseball and motorcycle helmet liners look pretty cool, it's kind of overkill in my opinion.

I almost got some, they look extremely comfortable! My only concern wad not being able to take them out and wash them. I would think the sticky back would not allow it, along with the type of material. I went ahead and ordered memory foam MICH tactical helmet padding. Comes with velcro dots for easy installation and removal.

Like I said, the heat is my main concern, so removability and washability, along with comfortability were my goals.

I tried a bunch of different padding and combinations of padding, even knee padding. Ended up using padding that trooperbay has using heavy duty Velcro to hold them in and can take them out to wash. And like Jason said, fans are a must!

I am using MICH pads I got from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RCLM8Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

$15.94 with Prime shipping.

They were supposed to come with velcro, but they did not.  What I found was these pads act as the fuzzy side of velcro.  I used the hook side of the industrial velcro I have and positioned them in the spots that were most comfortable to me.  I have one of the square pads in the front above the nose against the middle of my forehead, two rectangles with the longer sides running vertically next to my ears, and two rectangles with the longer sides running horizontally next to those going around my head.  I found when I put a pad directly in the back of my head, it pushed my head too far forward and my eyes were up against the eye lens.  If I put a pad directly at the top of the helmet, the helmet sat too high on my head.

I can take a pic of how I have the pads set in my helmet if you're interested.  My eyes are the right distance from the lens, I have full view out of the eyes, and the helmet moves with me no matter where I turn my head.

I almost bought the pads provided by trooper bay, will try out the MICH pads first and see how I like it. I plan on eventually buying a second helmet anyways so may as well experiment. Ron if you could PM or email some pics that'd be great! Thanks everyone!

Yep, I'll snap some shots when I head home in about an hour or so.

Hey Andrew, sorry for the late post - here's the inside of my helmet.  The green foam is protecting my head from the screws.  I cut some slits in the foam, put hot glue on the tips of the screws, and secured the foam in place.

Nice! Thanks for the pic! The padding I ordered is a little different than yours. It looks like mine may have came with more pieces, but your picture will surely help me out with placement!

Heres the one I purchased

I went with cheap and easy to replace. They sell a pack of foam sheets at Michael's for $9.99, to which you can then apply one of their 40% off coupons. Each cushion is 1 inch thick and about 1 foot square, so lots of room for extra pieces. Then I just cut shapes and temporarily taped them in until the fit felt good. A little E6000 used to attach velcro to the bucket, and hot glue to attach velcro to the foam and done. They can be washed and sprayed with Febreeze, or just replaced when needed. And little rubber grommets over the screws of course.
