cm325i Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 So, a perfectly intact box arrived today... (obligatory box photos) I don't plan to document a detailed build here as there are plenty of great builds already. I'll post progress as I have it. I also don't plan to go all out and make it super fancy. I'm really impressed and a little intimidated by the creativity of the builds on here. My goals for this build are to have fun and build a durable blaster for trooping. Wish me luck! Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 obligatory work mat pic...check! WOO HOO!!! Quote

gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Very nice looking forward to the build Quote
Snaps[TK] Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 We all learn from each other, no matter the skill level or added mods done....that's one reason the FISD is great! Good luck and you'll have more fun than you think building it.... Quote
fuumantroop[TK] Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Its a bummer when the builds been done for a week lol. I want to build another one! Its an addiction! Quote
cm325i Posted July 22, 2014 Author Report Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) Single guy, so this is goin down in my living room, on the coffee table I built and my kids have colored all over! LOL! white shavings everywhere! Lots of grinding, shaping, sanding, filing. started drilling holes and dry fitting parts, gluing in small posts for support... even superglued my pinky to my hand! cm325i Posted July 22, 2014 Author Report Posted July 22, 2014 picked up a few small bolts and screws and a spring at lunch today. Also a metal bar for the scope rail and a PVC pipe scrap for the bolt. The pipe is a tad wide to fit inside the DD. I haven't decided if I'm going to trim it to "make it fit" or try something else. cm325i Posted July 25, 2014 Author Report Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) I posted these on my Garrison Facebook page. This is where I am w my build. I've incorporated some mods I've seen in other builds. This has been more difficult than I thought it would and I'm a pretty handy guy. I guess it's just working with a new material. Sometimes I think it's a giant mess.... sometimes it's my favorite thing ever! I know it's not perfect or accurate, but I'm definitely trying my best... Edited July 25, 2014 by cm325i Quote
russellr2d2[TK] Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 I just finished mine and it was fun to build. I almost want to build another! After finishing mine I had to do something so I built a stand so you see even after you finish there is still more to do! Your DD's looks great keep on building!! Good Luck, Russell Quote
cm325i Posted August 8, 2014 Author Report Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) so, all the all the parts are painted either flat black or hammered black. I'm now at the stage of "weathering" everything then final assembly. I'm just a little nervous about trying to do the weathering dry brush technique. Edited August 8, 2014 by cm325i Quote
cm325i Posted August 8, 2014 Author Report Posted August 8, 2014 ok, jumped in... hows this look? Quote
welshchris77[TK] Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Great build Clint and weathering looking good so far, did you spray or brush paint the hammered black on, it looks great! Quote
cm325i Posted August 8, 2014 Author Report Posted August 8, 2014 Thanks for the feedback Chris! Everything is sprayed so far. I thought that image showed a good contrast between what would have been a real metal gun and the plastic t-tracks added onto the prop. I weathered more parts last night and will start some final assembly and finish painting over the weekend. Quote
cm325i Posted August 10, 2014 Author Report Posted August 10, 2014 More progress on the paint. I think it's really starting to look the part! Still need to build the scope rail and work out the bolt/spring combo for inside the tube. Any feedback welcome (good or bad) Thanks all! Quote
Starfox2010 Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 How many coats of hammer finish did you add? Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 This looks great! In my opinion, some areas look a little enthusiastic regarding the weathering. If I were to tone anything down a bit, it would be the gold on the counter. By the way, the magazine is designed to go into the mag well just a little bit further. It should go in all the way to the pointed edges on the front and the points on the rear clip. Also, the nuts on the power cylinders are HUGE. Great build, though. It's nice to see such careful work go into another doopydoos build. Quote
cm325i Posted August 19, 2014 Author Report Posted August 19, 2014 How many coats of hammer finish did you add? One coat of primer, 2 coats of flat black, one coat of hammered black, one coat of gloss black in the handle. Quote

It's nice to see such careful work go into another doopydoos build. Thanks for the feedback Gaz. There are actually several over weathered spots and things that got glued together "a little off". Unfortunately I used a super glue type adhesive since I wanted it to be sturdy and now I'm not sure I can remove/fix those things. I may just have to use it as is for now and get another kit or a hyperfirm later. Quote
cm325i Posted August 21, 2014 Author Report Posted August 21, 2014 So it doesn't seem that I'll be able to remove the "wonky" parts to make them fit better without possibly creating an even more non repairable issue. I guess I could hack off the magazine and completely Dremel out the mag well again and buy a new magazine. Not sure what to do about the end cap. In other news, my scope rail was a fail, so I'll be ordering one from Evilboy tomorrow. Quote
cm325i Posted August 31, 2014 Author Report Posted August 31, 2014 (edited) A few shots with Evilboy's scope rail attached. Still a couple of small details to work out but overall, I'm pretty satisfied with how it's come along. I need to learn to not be so self critical with these projects... gazmosis[501st] Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 I wouldn;t worry about it too much. This blaster looks incredible!!! You did a bang up job and should be proud!!! Quote
The5thHorseman[501st] Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Looks excellent indeed! You just need to score a cocking handle somewhere to be able to clear EIB and Centurion with it Quote
