TKedt[TK] Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 is the sculpt of the Hero helmet the same as stunt? (face wise) Quote
usaeatt2 Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 Hi Ed, I'm sure others will chime in on this, but here are the basic differences between hero and stunt (as I understand it): Hero has 6 teeth total (3 per side) while stunt has 8 teeth total (4 per side). Hero has 3 bumps on each ear while stunt has 4 bumps on each ear. Hero uses bubble eye lenses while stunt uses flat eye lenses. From what I've read, when ANH was made, 50 stunt helmets/armors were cast. Late in the game, someone decided to have hero helmets. By then, the moulds were in bad shape, so they were reworked and 6 hero helmets were pulled. Some people claim the back of the hero helmet has more of a 'V' shape than the stunt, but evidence of this isn't 100% clear. I've searched countless screen shots and I can only find one shot from the whole movie that supports the 'V' theory. Could just be the camera angle and/or lighting. Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 Aaron pretty much covered the differences. The only thing I can think to add is the number of screws in it. During assembly of the helmet, a Stunt helmet has three screws on each side, one at the bottom of each earpiece, and one each, above and below the ear bumps. A Hero helmet only has two screws on each side, as it omits the screw beneath the ear bumps. Quote
TKedt[TK] Posted July 6, 2014 Author Report Posted July 6, 2014 thanks guys. It just seems like the sculpt is different. I wanted a hero helmet but some people has told me that its the same helmet with the "upgrades". Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 Oh, Ed... One other difference that you'll typically see (and it could be viewed as a "sculpt" difference by the un-knowing) is the low-set of the brow trim. Of course, that is in the build, and not the sculpt. Quote
walt[501st] Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 See ! And now you know the differences...just rember who answered first Quote
I'm Batman[501st] Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 Don't know why they bothered Walt. You answered the question fairly clearly Quote
chrskmbr Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 Thanks, I couldn't come up with all of those on my own by comparing the CFL's! Quote
bpoodoo Posted July 19, 2014 Report Posted July 19, 2014 (edited) AFAIK there was one original "sculpt" by Liz Moore which looks very much like the original ANH stunt helmet. I don't think there was a separate sculpt done for the hero helmet. But there are clearly differences in the size, shape, and curvature between the original stunt and original hero helmets. The general belief is that one "buck" was used to vacuum form the stunt and hero faceplates, but in the time between when the stunts were pulled (earlier) and when the heroes were pulled (later), that the buck either degraded or was intentionally modified in a way that produced the hero look. Bottom line is today if you wanted to make a stunt helmet and a hero helmet accurately, you'd need to use separate forming bucks because the shapes are different. Here's an animated gif comparing the front view of a hero helmet to 2 different stunt helmets: ------------- Edited April 20, 2022 by gmrhodes13 link removed no longer working Quote
Daetrin[Admin] Posted July 19, 2014 Report Posted July 19, 2014 My understanding is what you said David, exactly. Quote
