gamesforbreakfast Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Its just standard system, a feature on these walkie talkies I'm using. Quote
maxsteele[TK] Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 how can you set them ????? Ā What is the model of the walkie talkies you have? Quote
gamesforbreakfast Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) http://amzn.com/B007B5ZR4G Ā They have privacy channels, low power mode, rechargeable batteries, and a compatible throat mic. Edited July 22, 2014 by gamesforbreakfast Quote
TKedt[TK] Posted July 22, 2014 Author Report Posted July 22, 2014 i figured out. So I will be trooping this saturday with this setup and I will take a video so you can see how it works in real situation. Quote
Fumanchewie[TK] Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 Thanks Matt for sharing your setup. It looks and sounds promising. Ā Ed do you have the same setup? Looking forward to seeing your video too. Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 Any update on that video yet, Ed? Ā Curious to see how it worked out. Quote
Luis.J.Trevino[TK] Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Any trooping experience with this setup? Quote
Fumanchewie[TK] Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 I bought this same set up and it arrived yesterday. I did not get to play around with it too much but so far I am pleased. There are a ton of privacy channels and settings. It does get loud but that may be different once it is behind my chest plate and I am in a crowd. Using the throat mic there is a slight lag that tends to cut off the first word I speak but I think I just need to practice with it more. Quote

Haha just be careful you don't pull an Emerson Fittipaldi with that throat mic. Quote
gamesforbreakfast Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 First troop went well. It took me a minute to get the neck seal and mic placed correctly to prevent from going off on it's own from time to time, but no more than a normal mic with VOX setup. I'm trooping DragonCon next weekend and will have a chance to really put it though its paces, and try out some more push-to-talk mode. Quote
ExorOmega Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 Have you had any more successes with this setup? Ā It's a brilliant idea, and it seems like the thing for those of use without the time and/or budget to make the snazzier setups into a thing. Ā $40 & shipping isn't a bad deal for an out-of-the-box solution. Quote
Dougal[501st] Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 I love it!!! Thanks for sharing. Anxiously waiting for updates on your test run! Ā #troopersonabudget Ā Ā Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
StructureBD[TK] Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 Very nice! Think I will try this in my first ESB TK. :-) Quote
MTom973 Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 @gamesforbreakfast Thank you for sharing this idea! Very budget-friendly method Ā Quote
StructureBD[TK] Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 (edited) I purchased the throat mic and the walkie talkies. Very easy set up and it works great! Very pleased. Many thanks, Matt.:-) Edited November 1, 2014 by StructureBD Quote
Huntzman Posted November 13, 2014 Report Posted November 13, 2014 Kinda curious about this set-up. How hard is it to adjust the channels while wearing the armor, to go from open conversation to a private one (say with a handler or another trooper) ? Quote
gamesforbreakfast Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 The gloves make switching channels difficult, I also keep my underthe chest plate. clipping to the belt would probably help. Quote
Luis.J.Trevino[TK] Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 After not being very happy with my aker, I've decided to try this setup. I already have the walkies at home and next week I'll test them in a troop. Quote
ukswrath[Staff] Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 Have you thought of buying a ROM/FX kit? Quote
PGHtoolman Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 Have you thought of buying a ROM/FX kit? Ā The kit might be great but does anyone know if it is worth $196.00 plus shipping? Quote
ukswrath[Staff] Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 The kit might be great but does anyone know if it is worth $196.00 plus shipping? Ā Ā I think so. Hop on over to my helmet electronics thread, then scroll down to my video demonstration. It's not very long but you'll get the idea. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/29534-helmet-electronics-and-external-power-supply-updated/ Quote
Luis.J.Trevino[TK] Posted January 19, 2015 Report Posted January 19, 2015 I'll test it next thursday. My first impression at home: I like the sound but it looks like the volume won't be loud enough... Quote
toybiz[TK] Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 If the walkie talkies have an earphone output, how about plugging that into a personal PA amp, like the Aker? That should give you plenty of volume!Ā Quote
