Ok I have decided to be a stormtrooper and will be putting together a kit. I am going to post up most of the build, please beware I am not the best photographer..

So here is how the parts arrived rough trimmed out of the box. This suit is 2mm ABS plastic and fairly standard to work with.

Im going to have a fairly small return edge on the parts to make this more comfortable for trooping as I wont be using the accurate strapping methods to construct this armour. Otherwise I would have left a bigger return to accommodate the screws needed.

I use a pencil to mark where I will cut and am using lexan scissors to trim all parts.

To make things neater I use sandpaper to smooth the edges, if you are going for the accurate look leave them rough.. it may pinch when you are out trooping though..

The same methods are applicable to all the armour parts so I will not be showing me working on them all.

Next is making the parts fit you. You will need to offer the parts up and see how much they need to be trimmed for a good fit. This is where the time will soon add up for your build. If the two parts do not met up 100% that's ok as these armour parts will be butt jointed and a joining strip added over the join as the originals were. So you will not see the ugly join. I use blue tape to check fit and hold the parts together while glueing.

This shin the parts do not join up that neatly but you will not see this later.

Next is to fit the cover join strips, these go an the front and back of the arms and legs.

When you are happy with them simply glue and tape down and wait to dry.

Here you can see how they cover the two parts of the clamshell.

Even though you've already started, is it possible to take video while building? Dont see many of those around.

Here's a look at some of the finished parts with the completed cover strips.

This is not the most accurate build and I have riveted the sniper knee plate on along with the thigh ammo pack.

good to see you posting mark.  I like the capped ABS.

my only faint hearted aspect are the rivets... oh well!

so very 2009!

in any event it's good to see a tight RS build.

ok now everyone has had their fun... most of all the old timers know that mark is a veteran.

I actually have to laugh at some of the comments above...?

so we all who have been here for several years know that pop rivets are not used on the

parts you show... so tell us kind sir... why did you add them...?

doc and marty discuss TK armor building...

the heat generated by pop rivets is almost 1.21 gigawatts of power.. at least enough to destroy a GML's brain.

darth vader from the planet vulcan sure knows how to hook it up!

Looking gook for a beginner... the photography I mean. ;)

Agreed - these are great shots. The advice you give is spot on.

And, while the rivets may not be 100% Centurion these days, they are still a very valid way to build kit. Heck, if people get tired of it they can always put on a new sniper plate later...

Posted

usually the term spot on is reserved for modern formats.

not only would you have to get a new knee plate, but you'd have to put cap rivets on the thigh.

spot on for 2008.

Rivets on the sniper????????

:o ....I know, simply shocking!..(scandalous even)...the man should be burned at the stake, what the devil was he thinking?

Burn him I say!!!! :angry2:

You should leave more material on each side fn the shoulder straps ribs at least leave a 1/8" lip, from photo it seems you trimmed to the edge of ribs which is a common newbie mistake, same goes for the main Ab button plate most over trim that part instead of leaving at least 1/8" lip all aroiund
