Clamps[TK] Posted June 5, 2014 Author Report Posted June 5, 2014 Good evening. Today's progress: Coverstrip on back of thighs Coverstrip on 1/2 biceps Coverstrip to rear of left shin And there they are...Clamps have come outta hiding. Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 6, 2014 Author Report Posted June 6, 2014 Last night of minor progress for a while because I did something silly; signed on for 3 says of Niagara Falls Comic Con 2nd coverstrips on biceps Rear coverstrip on right shin. 2nd coat of paint on an buttons. So I put sealed thighs on son a bit snug but I still need to remove a lot of return edge and most likely some height ;from tops. I put them on daughter and I can get my whole hand inside along with her leg. Gonna need to pad this for her. Ugh making it work for both is gonna be a big challenge. Cya next week kids. Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 12, 2014 Author Report Posted June 12, 2014 Time to bump this up with an update. Tonight was heat gun night. Used it to put a bend on belt: Thigh ammo pack: Also on shins to tighten up the rear after front coverstrip applied. And same with forearms. Here the rear cover strips are applied and drying. Lastly I put a little twist to the sniper plate as it just doesn't wanna sit right without a ton of force. Not as bad as AP but it will require some finesse. Here it is clamped and overly glued Last item of the night was to tap 1/8" hole for cap rivets in ammo pack. Quote
walt[501st] Posted June 12, 2014 Report Posted June 12, 2014 Very nice!!!.. The one thing i was so proud of...the perfect fit sniper knee plate...the bottom should not have any lip at all and the cover strip should be 16 mm...i cant tell if you did both...let me know if i need to work the mold more..... It is coming along great.....do you want just a 2ed st of legs..one for the boy and one for the girl?? Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 12, 2014 Author Report Posted June 12, 2014 Coverstrips on legs are ~16mm. I don't recall if I left any lip on bottom or not. I can check when I get home. Anywho. It's on there with plenty of e6000 so it's all good. As for 2nd legs. TBD. I wanna get everything together and see from there. I'm hitting the fabric store this weekend to get belt material and a few added items for strapping. My goal is to have everything assembled before my trip to Cali in a couple weeks. Still looking for boots and undersuit. Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 14, 2014 Author Report Posted June 14, 2014 So in regards to sniper plate. Yes I left a tiny amount of return on the bottom of the plate but not enough to have a material impact on install. Anywho. She's on there and holding strong!! I decided to wedge the boy into the kit last night to get a feel for how things are going. He yelped a couple times from sharp edges and return edges digging in. But overall I think we're on track. Note the missing forearm is because I had to re glue coverstrip after heat gun allowed it to come up. I will wait until I have undersuit and boots before final length trimming on the limbs. Heading out to buy fabric for belt today and extra strapping supplies. This morning I supplemented my coffee with a bunch of return edge removal. Lexan scissors once again are fantastic!! Here's half of the pile from just return edge removal. Have a great weekend everyone. Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 16, 2014 Author Report Posted June 16, 2014 Yesterday was build a belt and neck seal day. Belt turned out nicely. Width is about 60mm based on my conversion math from full sized belt. Here it is with and without plastic belt (still needs covers added). Neck seal attempt one is so so. Not 100 % happy. Things went mostly wrong when I added the material around the bottom. I must not have shaped it right as it sits all kind of fubar. No photos to share with that hot mess. I'll attempt round two this week. I have a couple ideals on how to do a better job. Quote
walt[501st] Posted June 17, 2014 Report Posted June 17, 2014 Am i the only one that can't sew?! Quote
Tolo[TK] Posted June 17, 2014 Report Posted June 17, 2014 Am i the only one that can't sew?! Nope lol Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 17, 2014 Author Report Posted June 17, 2014 Belt is complete with drop boxes installed. Not sure if I plan on actually installing a holster or not. we'll see. Hand plates have some stretchy installed: Thigh ammo belt installed, though I realized my cap rivets are not scaled appropriately and thus look too big. I will buy smaller ones and replace sometime over the summer. Quote
walt[501st] Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 Rivets. .2 small white ones where they in the bag....2 for lid 2 for leg ammo.....i got to Say if not the guy packing this stuff up sucks...forgets this and that...that was a ruff week man...if not let me know....you should change the threads name to...let me know Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 18, 2014 Author Report Posted June 18, 2014 they were there, but I chose not to use them as I wanted to use the Cap rivet style, working towards mini-eib or centurion ) the guy packing the boxes is a F'ing rock star, don't you forget it mr man! Quote
walt[501st] Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 Well i dont know about that....your building it and doing a far better job then me Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 19, 2014 Author Report Posted June 19, 2014 Time to start putting together a strapping system for the torso. I'll be using a bit more Velcro vs snaps for this build. Butt to kidney will have four fixed straps. I added the two snaps to the butt tab. Kidney to back will be two large Velcro patches. Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 19, 2014 Author Report Posted June 19, 2014 Oops hit send too quickly. Will use elastic/Velcro to hold chest to kidney. Added elastic to shoulder bell. Prep work seen below Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 20, 2014 Author Report Posted June 20, 2014 More straps and snaps and Velcro added to the mix. Getting close to being able to fit the body and then trim the sides. Once all that is all done I can move to finalizing height of thighs and shins and forearms. All of that though happens after a 2-ish week hiatus with the family. Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 20, 2014 Author Report Posted June 20, 2014 Oops. Forgot the boring image. Tapatalk is not allowing me to edit lately. So here ya go: Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 23, 2014 Author Report Posted June 23, 2014 alrighty, some more slow, minor progress, actually I consider this pretty significant progress. I have the torso strapping done. Will still require some adjusting to get just right, but its close enough to help move things to the next steps. Added some rivets to the sides and cod Also replaced the thigh ammo pack with smaller rivets. bigger rivet (shown again here) for reference These are 1/4" diameter and post length. They are all cap rivets, as split are not easy to come by around here, and honestly, these are good enough for this kit. Here is a front view with everything tossed on for fun. will need to shorten up the thighs a bit as well as the shins. Arms might just be ok, will strap them up tonight. Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted June 26, 2014 Author Report Posted June 26, 2014 Have not had much free time this week in preparation for being out of town. But a few more details are underway. Shoulder bridges curves attached to chest: Ab button details glued. Hope I got them on right Also been conducting some strapping tests an experiments. Final setup has to wait for an undersuit as tshirts are just too thick and it's messaging with proper closure and alignment Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 Looking good, Clamps!!! Walt - I'm with Eric in affirming that you are NOT the only one who cannot sew. Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted July 2, 2014 Author Report Posted July 2, 2014 So, the Shoulder bridges glue was not able to hold due small contact area which in turn is due to the limited length of the bridges. I moved to Velcro before I left for my trip. finally found a good deal on boots, they might be a little big for the kids' feet, but I plan to put thick insole. They are Smoky Mountain Women's Leather Jodphur boots. Got them for $33 plus shipping. Boots were 1/2 price due to being only pair in stock or something like that. The online store was Equestrian Collections .com. Once I made that order, I went ahead ordered Angelus paint, deglazer and some fabric paint for the boots. all of that was ~$12 plus shipping. Still struggling to find compression wear for the kids. I have tried Target (US). Next attempts will be Wal Mart (US) and some other shops recommended by other folks in the area where I am visiting. Finally, I have decided to acquire additional limbs from Walt to be able to make a set that also fits my daughter. the torso and helmet will be shared (for now). Quote
walt[501st] Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 Champions sports wear..for the undersuit.. Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted July 7, 2014 Author Report Posted July 7, 2014 Soo friggin frustrated looking for undersuit for kids. I'm in the US for remainder of week. Nothing at Wal Mart, target , kmart, TJ Maxx, Marshall's and the like. The best I can do is women's leggings. Nothing. Even close short wise. I really prefer somewhere where I can have kids try them on as my son is beefy and daughter a string bean. Using size charts is total crap shoot. Ughghghghghghgh!!!!!! Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted July 7, 2014 Author Report Posted July 7, 2014 Tapatalk not letting me edit. Shirt not short Quote
