Palpatine1977 Posted May 5, 2014 Author Report Posted May 5, 2014 Hey Brandon! Awesome job, they look great!!! I keep getting the same seemingly generated email from TK boots when I inquire about a timeframe for boots, so I might be going this route as well. Most of the UK sites I've looked on say they won't ship internationally, any advice? I'm gonna be a barefoot trooper soon!! Thanks Yea I don't know whatsup with that... yep that's why it was so hard to find them, and in my size haha. Actually I pleaded with someone on ebay to ship to me, she was very nice Quote
Palpatine1977 Posted May 6, 2014 Author Report Posted May 6, 2014 Fifth coat done Getting really hard to see a difference in between coats now haha... at least one more though, think I could stop now, but i'm not one to settle On an unrelated note, very pleased.. I have a new boyfriend Quote
Palpatine1977 Posted May 6, 2014 Author Report Posted May 6, 2014 LOL, you should name him him "Nubs". Hey! He has a condition and is very sensitive about it xD Quote
Palpatine1977 Posted May 6, 2014 Author Report Posted May 6, 2014 Lol, that thing is awkward. Makes me feel like Kenny Baker standing next to it! Even though it is actually only 6'1" haha Quote
Palpatine1977 Posted May 8, 2014 Author Report Posted May 8, 2014 Lookin shiny, coat #6 A side note - no trooper should be left with bad breath! Stormtrooper mints haha Quote
usaeatt2 Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 MINTY...the boots and the mints! Hey Brandon, I don't know if you've thought of it or done it yet, but I would consider VERY LIGHTLY scoring along the edge of the tape with an exacto or razor blade. It would really suck to pull up any of the white while removing the tape. It's not leather, but I've seen custom paint guys do it after painting flames or graphics on cars. I want your boots to look as good or better than TK boots when the tape is removed. An inspiration to those with motivation! I bet it's killing you waiting to pull the tape... 1 Quote
Palpatine1977 Posted May 8, 2014 Author Report Posted May 8, 2014 Thanks!! Yea haha I never actually thought about that until my friend mentioned it to me when he came over and I was like yea that's a really good idea haha.. I will be sure to do that, would suck to pull the paint off! Oh yes it's definitely killing me haha can't wait.. I think I'll do a few more very light coats. Quote
Grimez Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) You are such an inspiration to us all. My deglazer has been taking FOREVER to arrive but i'm still hoping to get it by the end of the week. Its coming from Florida, but i've gotten packages from California faster than this. It took 3 days just for them to deliver it to USPS! Anyway, good luck with the elastic and removing your tape, i will be following this thread to the bitter end. Edited May 8, 2014 by Grimez Quote
Fumanchewie[TK] Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 Looks better and better with every coat. Thanks for sharing your progress. I look forward to seeing the finished product. Quote

I know i'm so impatient waiting for packages to come in the mail, and I live on an island!! Well it shouldn't take long at all once they have it, it would just be a small packet, try not to think about it and it will come faster! Looks better and better with every coat. Thanks for sharing your progress. I look forward to seeing the finished product. Thank you for the kind words, you're very welcome xD I enjoy it, and I also look forward to seeing them finished finally haha Quote

Palpatine1977 Posted May 9, 2014 Author Report Posted May 9, 2014 Coat 7 and 8 on, just did one in the morning and one now, extremely light coats.. this stuff dries really fast lol Quote
Palpatine1977 Posted May 10, 2014 Author Report Posted May 10, 2014 Okay! SO, today was the big reveal.. thanks to usaeatt2's suggestion of scoring along the sides, I had very minimal paint peeling.. however that bastard frog didn't do his job perfectly and so a little bit seeped through.. no biggie, I plan to just use some flat black model paint and a very fine paint brush for those bits I will show pics this weekend of them completely finished Quote
Grimez Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 I knew I couldn't trust that frog, that's why I avoided him and his overpriced tape and just got some generic painters tape for like 50 cents. Quote

Palpatine1977 Posted May 10, 2014 Author Report Posted May 10, 2014 Pictures yet? You're killin' me... Ohh okay Got the first coat of that fabric dye on as well, left it overnight and it just soaks right in to the fabric nicely.. Can't wait to touch these up will get some better pics lol Quote
The5thHorseman[501st] Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) Don't be afraid to go really heavy on those U-shaped elastics if you want a good dye. Soak them ! Edited May 11, 2014 by The5thHorseman Quote
Palpatine1977 Posted May 10, 2014 Author Report Posted May 10, 2014 Don't be afraid to go really heavy on those U-shaped elastics if you want a good dye. Soaked them ! Haha yea I didn't realize how much they could soak up! there was a thick coat on them, and now it looks like I hardly touched them xD another coat should do it I think Quote
Grimez Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 So to clarify on the fabric dye, are you applying it straight from the container or putting it on some kind of brush and applying? Quote
Palpatine1977 Posted May 11, 2014 Author Report Posted May 11, 2014 Uh I loaded it up straight from the container because you need to go pretty heavy, it soaks it up the first coat, but a paintbrush is still required to spread it. Quote
Palpatine1977 Posted May 11, 2014 Author Report Posted May 11, 2014 Alrighty, tonight I was able to paint over any of the white dye leakage on the soles, and a second coat on the elastics... seems the elastics will need one more thin coat since the white paint is still quite translucent (although it's kind of hard to tell that from the pic.. by this time tomorrow they should be 100% completed!
