Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 Now that I don't need to take an airplane to troop I might as well start keeping track of my troops. Where better place than here on FISD? 2014-03-09 Pack 78's Blue & Gold Dinner I think I actually fell asleep in my helmet while all the adults were making speeches and giving each other awards. Regardless I was really psyched to finally get to troop as well as meet my new garrisonmates in person. This was a walk in, stand around, and then mingle with the crowd type of event. As you can see I cannot break a certain Hawaiian habit. 1 Quote

Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted June 20, 2014 Author Report Posted June 20, 2014 2014-06-14 Boston Pride Parade When I used to think about the New England Garrison images of the St. Patrick's Day Parade would immediately come to mind. After moving back here I still assumed it was the troop of all Boston troops. As the date grew closer this year it became clear that I could not support an event that excluded any group based on something as silly as who they love. For me this troop was a big FU to the organizers of the St. Patrick's event. Also... it was super fun and the most positive and happy troop I have attended. I only wish more folks joined us. We marched under the flag of the Intergalactic Alliance, a Boston based costume group. Many thanks to them for all of their coordination and logistical efforts. The other highlight was finally meeting, albeit very briefly, Stormrooperguy, who is the Judge in the photos below. Without a blaster I have no earthly idea what to do with my hands (except flip over a drop box and lose my knee pack). The Doctor was the most popular of us all. I think I look like bigfoot from the Patterson footage. Oh knee pack! I am pretty sure this is me dancing the Time Warp... or just being a doofus in general... probably just a doofus: Hooray for New England troop #2. -Eric Quote

Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted July 23, 2014 Author Report Posted July 23, 2014 2014-07-20 Franklin Park Zoo - Dreamnight at the Zoo This troop is why we do what we do. Dreamnight at the Zoo is a project that started in the Netherlands where zoos open their doors to chronically ill and disabled children for free. This year our local zoo asked the 501st and the Rebel Legion to show up for the kids. It goes without saying that we were well received by the kids, young and old. The faces that lit up seeing Vader stroll by with two (very differently sized TKs) on either side is the reason I get suited up. This was also my chance to finally troop with Webchief (Bob the Detachment Leader of the Bounty Hunter's Guild) as Vader, and Stormtrooperguy (Brian formerly of the LMO team and many other notable Legion and FISD related things) in his actual TK... if you can believe it. Nagilum was there too, who is often our Vader, but for some reason he let the Empire down by wearing his Jedi costume. Here are the photos to further slow down the loading of this page... This is my favorite photo of the troop: Sadly the photos of us walking through the park looking all manner of Imperial didn't come out very well. New England Troop #3? Done. Aloha, -Eric 1 Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 Just look at that RT-Mod TK gleam and tower over everything else around it!!! Both of those last two troops look like they were indeed awesome fun, and that Zoo troop... Priceless stuff. I absolutely agree, that troops like that are what we're all about. Great showing, and thanks for sharing!!! Quote

Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted August 12, 2014 Author Report Posted August 12, 2014 2014-08-09 Boston Comicon I don't know why I thought Boston Comicon would be a jokey event. Maybe I became used to Hawaiian events as being small, disorganized, and poorly attended. In spite of how silly I think Boston is as a city, it turns out that it is actually a major metropolitan city that is enjoying the growing popularity of geek culture. Boston Comicon gave the New England Garrison a certain number of free passes. I did not sign up for one because I did not want to commit to a certain time manning the NEG booth. I also decided that I wanted to support BCC financially with a day pass for Saturday. The event started at 1000. I showed up like a rube at 0930 wandering in looking for the NEG changing room. I took note of the line wrapping around the building in several directions but it didn't register with me that I was supposed to be in one of those lines. Thankfully the staff of BCC saw that I was wearing a Pacific Outpost shirt with my name on it and carrying a TK torso. They let me in and gave me a wrist band even though I wasn't on the approved list because our XO (who I had never met before) showed up at the same time I did. Hooray for small town cons and nice people. I was able to go to our luxurious changing space to leisurely get ready for the con. Having a secure air conditioned space (even if you share it with the KISS folks) is one of the best things ever. I spent almost the entire Saturday manning the booth in costume if I wasn't wandering around. Halfway through the day I put on my lei and board shorts because it was really really hot in the convention room. Enjoy the photos... and thanks for reading this far. This pretty much typifies my con experience no matter where I go. It is really hard to take myself seriously. The Vader in this photo is your Bounty Hunter's Guild Detachment Leader Bob aka Webchief: It was hot as a mofo on the floor of the con which gave me a perfect excuse to change into... me. The New England Garrison build a death star trash compactor set for this con. It turned out really really awesomely. Here is Stormtrooperguy and the freaking amazing diagona he made. New England troop #4! Aloha, -Eric 1 Quote

ClockworkRonin Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Did you do any photoshop on Revan's saber??? If not it looks great! I need to get me one of those Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 Great stuff as always, Eric! Joey, I've read some stuff somewhere - I know that's not much of a help - but probably in the Sith Lord Detachment, of alterations that they do to their sabers to make them glow with much richer, deeper colors. That's probably the best place to look for all things saber related. Quote
