Greetings,

I currently was given a suit from a member in my garrison. It dates back to 2000 ( believe it is an FX suit) and needs a lot of love. So far being a female figure I already need to make adjustments to the thighs, shins, and forearms.  So I have a few questions about shims. Yes shims. I'm looking confirmation that the back shim is acceptable.

Hi Gayle! Welcome!

I would say if you are going to shim, you should try to recreate the original look. Since it is a FX with the clam shell type closeure  it makes it more difficult. The problem is that when adding a large shim, the lip then moves really far off of the center, where it used to be. It may be an odd creation, but I would cut off the lip on the back, and shim half on one side then half on the other. In the new middle you can add a cover strip to go over the seam.
