So I have began the exciting journey to replicate Luke's armor from A New Hope. I have recently acquired a 1.5mm TM armor from a great chap here on the boards (thanks DarthChandler). I am very excited to begin this build which has been a dream for quite sometime...

Other than the uniqueness in details of Luke's armor, my posture would fit perfectly into this armor as I'm always getting comments, aren't you short for a stormtrooper?

I want t take this moment to thank Paul for creating such great set of armor, every single detail on it is mind blowing. So hats off to the Troopermaster himself. Thank you Paul.... I also want to thank Stephen (SW1) of the UKG for sharing his thread on his awesome, hella accurate Luke suit. It has been an inspiration, and i still cry myself to sleep looking at that thread.

I will try to replicate Luke's armor down to the last detail, although there are still a few things that i question, hoping that you more experienced folks could help me through the process. I've gotten all the accurate strapping for the suit as well, just need to find a comlink and grappling hook for the belt. Original boots as you may you are very hard to find, so that might take some time.

I want to talk a little bit about the uniqueness of Luke's armor and differences from other suits, in hoping that if i have missed something, you guys would let me know. I've been stuffing myself with reference photos, screen caps and watching A New Hope frame by frame.

Helmet:

Of course Luke has the most unique lid of all, starting with the lowbrow, which happens to be my favorite part of the suit. The helmet also has equal number of stripes on each side of the helmet. 13 tube stripes on each side, 8 stripes on the tears, and left rear trap has 11 stripes and right rear traps has 13 stripes. ( please correct me if I'm wrong on this)

Torso:

Thanks to the blue ray bonus material, we were able to see how Luke's upper part of the armor was assembled, unlike other armors, Luke's just had elastics holding the chest and back to the abs and kidney, while the kidney still uses the bracket strapping to the butt plate.

One thing I've also noticed is that Luke's armor had very minimal return edge on most of his armor, his chest had no return edge whatsoever. One thing I've been wondering is if the bottom of his back plate still has the return edge, because from what I'm seeing, it seem to be cut off as well.

Belt :

Aside from having the comlink, grappling hook replacing the detonator, one other thing i see is that luke only has 2 belt squares instead of 3. He seems to be missing the middle one, i thought that might of it fallen off after the trash compactor scene, but during the detention block scenes, it was missing the square from then. I would think that if it did fall off, you would be able to see the cap rivet that holds the ammo belt to the belt itself, but it seems very clean. Luke also had thicker drop boxes than usual.

(No middle belt squares, and thick drop boxes)

Arms:

I have not seen hooks on the biceps like Han has on his, so i probably wont add that. it was also mentioned to me that Luke had doubled forearms. as for the hand guards, i just got Karin's authentic line ANH hand guards which will go perfect with this build.

Thighs:

Luke also has his upper left thigh over trimmed that is also detail which makes his armor very unique. I will also try my best to replicate this feature into the replica.

This is just a few things that I've found researching on the forums, other peoples builds, reference photos and watching the movie frame by frame. I am sure there are other unique things yet to be discovered. I will try my best to document each and every process along the way.... and hopefully you guys can help me get this replica to 100% screen accuracy.

On to the armor itself, here is a few pics after unboxing the wonderful 1.5mm TM armor....

So that all i have for now, should be an exciting couple of weeks ahead of me, and I'm hoping that you would join me in this journey to make one awesome looking replica.. Thanks again FISD....

Cheers....

Dedication! Will look forward to the finished results.

Hadn't noticed the missing return edges on the chestplate. Guess you learn something everyday, in this hobby.

Looking forward to the progress, good luck with the build :D

Thanks guys, appreciate the advice and kind words...

And as it turns out, as usual, I am very bad at taking detailed progress pics and posting them. I've worked on the armor to the point where is about 90% finished. Here are a few snaps....

And a few other extra parts came in over the week to complete this build...

Karin's awesome authentic handguards,

EB07059A-701C-41BA-B8B5-D3660437C38C_zps

Evo3's Grappling hook and comlink,

D2CA3030-6390-478A-8209-7386CC8C3BFC_zps

also bought individual parts to make another comlink, which is from the Veron Hawkeye model plane cylinder part to go with Marks hovi. But the problem with this is that the hovi seems a bit too small for the cylinder..

all that is still needed is a grappling hook box from Paul, and should be good to go... ( No rush Paul Sir, hope you get well soon).

Well that's pretty much what i have up to this point, will update with pics as progresses.... Thanks again folks..

Cheers..
