Just a quick question, the vocoder should it be glossy or a flat black?

I've seen both gloss and flat black on fellow troopers vocoders.  I used semi-gloss and it looks pretty good.  I'm not sure if there is a strict requirement on that...  I could be wrong.

I can't find the link now, but I believe the recommendation is for a satin or semi-gloss black. The mix ratio suggested was something along the lines of 2/3 gloss to 1/3 flat. I did a 50/50 mix. But I agree with Jason that you will see all manner of variation regarding the gloss level of the vocorder and mic-tips. Here is what the 50/50 looks like:
