ocsurfreport Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Guys I need help with a decision to buy this helmet for $240 and I have no other place to ask. To me it look great, but I have made several mistakes already and don't want to make another. I welcome all opinions, http://i.imgur.com/whSloqP.jpg http://i.imgur.com/qZhWGHe.jpg http://i.imgur.com/WvpnznW.jpg http://i.imgur.com/mGNN0RA.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Rccf02W.jpg http://i.imgur.com/egYvyQn.jpg http://i.imgur.com/n9aq7D5.jpg http://i.imgur.com/4jWNaHp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/qdYPjIH.jpg Quote
ocsurfreport Posted October 30, 2013 Author Report Posted October 30, 2013 I would pass on that. But why? I'm just curious to know what it is you see that I don't, so at least i can spot things I don't normally see in helmets. Thanks... Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Poor trimming on the ears Bad paintjob Too large tubestripes Poor decals in tears and traps Decals don't fit intended areas Wrong kind of hovi tips Too small brow trim Lenses appear to be "air tight" around the eyes (some like that, but it leads to less ventilation and moist on the lenses) Need I go on? Minuteman Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 $240 is pretty much for this helmet. I don´t know the maker, but the mic tips are horrible and wrong, Looks like he used cheap decals for the details, e.g. the tube stripes are much too thick, the tear and trap stripes are to short and small. The vocoder is painted like sh*t. Hm. What do you want it for? Just a display, or do you want something to troop with and get yourself an armor? If you want to do that, I would recommend you to buy armor and helmet together - no color difference for sure. For round about $130 you get an ATA kit and can build it to your own wishes, and you can do the job much better than the builder did with this one. Good luck! Quote

It looks like that that might be what I have to do, everyone is recommending ATA! Quote
DroidHunter Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 ATA is a solid kit. I just got mine about a month and a half ago (sadly very little work on it so far). Great kit at a really good price. The ONLY negative is that the wait list is about 8 months at present -- for the whole kit. You can usually order just a helmet ahead of time as Terrell tends to have those in stock. Good luck. Quote
Peaches_DC Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 I have an ATA and its fantastic. He usually has helmets on hand ready to ship. Going with a recommended kit will save you a lot of headaches and cost a lot less, plus you get to have a lot of fun building it yourself. The one you posted there looks like it has the same mic-tips as an AP, but it also looks very thin (can see outer details from the inside). Not sure what make it is, or what material (could be thin ABS). Quote
DizzyStormtrooper[501st] Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Cap w is slightly larger and less bumpy on the dome Quote
ClockworkRonin Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 ATA helmets are 130? Or the whole kit? Quote
Minuteman Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 ATA helmets are 130? Or the whole kit? ?!!!! What do you think ? $130 for the whole armor - welcome to paradise! No, just the HELMET KIT Quote
