I have glued these into place... should I rivet as well?

The ammo belt yes, with split rivets, but, not the sniper plate.

For the record it's 7mm, but 8mm is close.

and is this also the case for EIB level?

You should at least use split rivets, they are easily found. Cap rivets if you can find them. Pop rivets can be used for EIB only, but I wouldn't go that route.

Split, Cap and Pop rivets?  Which of those are considered standard rivets?  I see I cannot use standard rivets and so want to avoid them.
