Elastic band+cut= fray?

Hey guys was wondering.... If I cut the elastic I purchased to start assembling my armor will it fray and unravel? If so is there a trick to prevent this? Thanks

A lighter will do,  i just burned the two end of it.

Either sew the end over or use a lighter to melt the end.

Burn it or fold it and sew it.

I use an old soldering iron. The side works well to melt cut edges, and the point works well to create a hole for snaps, rivets etc while simultaneously melting it.

I fold the ends over so the elastic is double thickness, that way the snap won't pull thru the elastic if pulled on.

I go with the lighter, and I put velcro on the end and use a hole punch, then I add the snap.

The velcro attaches to the armor, and the snap holds it in place.

 

This allows a single thickness and I always use Hook velcro on straps, and fuzzy velcro on the armor.

it allows for the snap to be held in place by the velcro!!!

 

no folding or sewing needed!

Frayed ends FTW!

I use a little e6000 and press into the area I want to cut. I let it cure for an hour then cut. This can also be done after the fact to prevent fraying, but you will end up having to trim some strands that get away during the process.

I on the other hand prefer Magic and pixie dust! J/K I just heat the ends with a lighter.

There's nothin as simple as a bic lighter.  and you can even use it to shape armor.
