Tesla Kinetic[TK] Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 What does everyone use to attach foam padding to the inside of their armor (for example, the forearms, shins), and how exactly are you doing it so that it lasts through all the trooping? Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Watch hot glue if you are using it on anything really thin like the inside of the helmet cap. Apply it to the foam and wait 10 seconds or so for it to cool just a bit. If the glue is too hot it could melt the plastic on thinner areas Quote
pattrooper Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 I have used double sided tape, it has held up for years. Quote
DizzyStormtrooper[501st] Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 hot glue on HIPS will melt it... you can also dab the foam in a little e6000, then use magnets or tape so it doesnt slide as it dries Quote
Blandsaft[TK] Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 I use a hard hat, first reason is that i use glasses. but theĀ Steadiness in a hardhat is just awesome Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 I use velcro glued to the foam and inside the lid, that allows you to remove it and give it a wash from time to time, did the same with my forearm foam Quote
Tesla Kinetic[TK] Posted September 13, 2013 Author Report Posted September 13, 2013 I use velcro glued to the foam and inside the lid, that allows you to remove it and give it a wash from time to time, did the same with my forearm foam Thanks, trooper! What glue did you use? E6000? CA? Quote
RampantLion[TK] Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 I was planning on just using the adhesive industrial Velcro. It seems to be holding well in my lid. Anyone else try this for elsewhere on their armor? Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 E6000 works fine but I have also used a contact adhesive, yellow in color, you apply to both sides wait to getĀ tacky then apply together. I just like the ability to remove and was foam, some troops can be pretty sweaty Ā Quote
Tesla Kinetic[TK] Posted September 13, 2013 Author Report Posted September 13, 2013 Okay, I think I will try E6000 gluing the velcro to the foam. I have heard many stories of how the industrial velcro adhesive fails in hot weather. I *do*.live in Texas... Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 I just use standard haberdashery Velcro, hasn't failed as yet Quote
Tesla Kinetic[TK] Posted September 13, 2013 Author Report Posted September 13, 2013 But you are using something other than the adhesive that comes attached to industrial strength velcro, correct? Because that is what I am talking about when I say it fails. Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 I don't use Velcro that has the sticky backing, that will fail if you blow on it Ā . Non adhesive Velcro with E6000 works Quote
Oztrooper[TK] Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 I use a hard hat, first reason is that i use glasses. but theĀ Steadiness in a hardhat is just awesome +1 !!! Quote
Tesla Kinetic[TK] Posted September 15, 2013 Author Report Posted September 15, 2013 E6000 holds quite well! I have even been successful using it on velcro that already has that piss poor adhesive attached to it! Quote
Jancelot[TK] Posted September 15, 2013 Report Posted September 15, 2013 Hot glue. Wet a rag with cold water and hold it on the opposite side to prevent any warping. I've never had a problem with this method. Quote
Tesla Kinetic[TK] Posted September 15, 2013 Author Report Posted September 15, 2013 Sounds good...i will keep this in mind. Quote
