Ales Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 I have received the almost all of the ATA armor kit and want to start with a helmet as the main part of the kit. The first thing I'll do is the mic tips place reinforcement with epoxy milliput. Than I plan to paint the inside of two helmet parts in black with rustoleum flat black color paint. Quote
Ales Posted August 30, 2013 Author Report Posted August 30, 2013 Initially the inside of lids are waxy and I use tough kitchen sponge and detergent to remove the slicky cover and than use 400 size sandpaper for rough surface. Than apply milliput (epoxilin on russian). Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Nice start, looking forward too more Quote
Ales Posted August 31, 2013 Author Report Posted August 31, 2013 Sanded and masked. Ready for painting. Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I love the use of plastic bags, I usually use newspaper, every time I get a plastic bag it has a hole in it Quote
Ales Posted August 31, 2013 Author Report Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) There are two layers of bags cover It should be enough if not to spray directly on bags. Edited August 31, 2013 by Ales Quote
bigtrev503 Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I think they put that hole in it to keep kids from suffocating. Good idea doubling the bags! Quote
Ales Posted August 31, 2013 Author Report Posted August 31, 2013 First coat primer for plastic and then rustoleum flat black. Mic tips painted also. Quote
Ales Posted August 31, 2013 Author Report Posted August 31, 2013 Ok, masking tape and bags off. I'm happy with result. Quote
Ales Posted September 1, 2013 Author Report Posted September 1, 2013 Today I'm start trimming the outer lines of the two helmet pieces. First thing I make the magnets more hand and plastic friendly. The trimming is a really nervous process. That is what I have now: The thing I can't trim good is the bottom line where the faceplate connect to backplate. Is it normal? : Quote
Ales Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 Comrades, I need your advise for my teeth trimming. I've tried to do it somewhere near the pandatrooper tutorial. But if it's need more trimming please advise. Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 Personally I would try to go a little squarer in the corners of the teeth, but they are still fine they way there are Quote
Ales Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 All right. The other thing I found is that the lens is not fully adjoin to inner eyes line. Even if pushing the lens from the sides. Is it normal? Quote

Even if pushing the lens from the sides. Is it normal? Yes. It's also a good thing not to have it air tight as it helps with ventilation and prevents fogging. Quote
Ales Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) I like EFx style of lens attaching - bolt on. I will try to do the same. It will be more accurate looking than full stripe of lens from ear to ear. Also there will be no problem with fogging - I will install the blow fan inside the helmet. Have you never seen inside an original helmet? Quote
Ales Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 Oh yes, you are right. I'm just use a wrong word, sorry. I mean that using of two split triangular lenses will give neat interior of the helmet. Quote
Ales Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) Here is the progress. Using of furniture cotter pins and fast curing epoxy. Edited September 2, 2013 by Ales Quote
Ales Posted September 3, 2013 Author Report Posted September 3, 2013 (edited) Glued, drilled, painted and screwed By the way, the lens that Terrell send me with the helmet was very high (in dimension), so when I cut the lenses there is enough for installing the rest stripe from ear to ear. Just like I cut the nose area And if my installation will fail, I always can apply the accurate version Edited September 3, 2013 by Ales Quote
Ales Posted September 3, 2013 Author Report Posted September 3, 2013 Now it's time to join the two halves of helmet. I like low brow and I'm seeing my helmet such way: Is the sides alignment correct? Quote
Ales Posted September 3, 2013 Author Report Posted September 3, 2013 (edited) A liiiiitle bit curved Edited September 4, 2013 by Ales Quote
Ales Posted September 5, 2013 Author Report Posted September 5, 2013 (edited) Is there any reference by the ears placement on helmet. Any rules of ear position angle, tilt? Edited September 5, 2013 by Ales Quote
