Hey fellow troopers!

After my last ATA helmet build I could not resist to get a new project rolling.

It will be a CAP helmet from Scott´s recent run.

And after I now know how to build the helmet together I want it to look like a real screen-used one, with the original HDPE-colour showing through and the signs of usage.

Already bought the right color-spray: RAL 7034 for the HDPE-khaki-green and RAL 9016 for the white.

I´m really impressed by the helmet kit. The pull is detailed, especially the ears are CRISP :duim:  and the rest of the material like brow and neck trim, mictips, screws and nuts and the lens material are high quality.

Can´t stress enough how I like this kit :P

So without further delay - here it is:

No updates for a week, college kept me busy.

And also no pictures from the ear fitting - simply forgot to take them.

So what I did was:

Cleaned and sanded the helmet

And then apllied the khaki-color over the primer

This week I will challenge the outside :salute:

Now the HIPS helmet is transformed completely into a HDPE one:

Next is placing the latex for the chipping effect

You call that BEER?!?!?!?

:P

Nice build! This makes me want to finish my chipper....

Thank you Karin!

What we have here, we call "Pils" which is real beer, brewed according to the german purity order of 1516 :peace: Only water, barley and hops

Not your austrian "Spezialbier/Vollbier" where nobody knows what it contains  ;)  rice starch and so on

What did I drank then when I was in Schruns this year?

I´m certain it was a beer with rice starch in it..... doesn´t matter

In fact I like all good tasting beers, no matter where they are from .... some Stiegel, Ottakringer, Zipfer or Trumer do the job as well :duim:

I'll have to ask my friend, the nutrionist :)

But you're right.

BTW: Do you know a source for the Ral 7034, besides ebay?

Do you plan on adding some red primer over spray on the inside?

I got mine from ebay, but you could go to your local automotive store ( AutoTeileUnger e.g. here in Germany) and let them mix RAL 7034 if they don´t have it ready. Probably not the cheapest way. I paid for 400 ml on ebay about 9,50€.

And with the red primer...... I was simply to stingy to buy a can of red color for only one microgramm that I need.

So I will just hit the inside with a little bit of white color, but the red dust will be missing.

Both was present at the originals, so that will not be the apocalypse

Today: White paint and chipping :)

I used simple latex milk to cover the areas I wanted to keep khaki - so no need for expensive special color stop stuff.

Here is todays result:

(The first one who finds out which helmet is recreated with the chipping will be rewarded with a beer at CEII :duim: )

100 points and one german "Stauder" Pils go to the man from the island :duim:

Yes it is the Dave M helmet and I wanted to point at this exact picture comparison:

Especially this chipping is (in my opinion) nearly a 1:1 copy of the original *imaginary clap on my own shoulder*

Paul, will I meet you at CEII?

I will be there all 3 days and also at the legion dinner, so if you like we can have a drink together.

Cheers :D

If you look at this picture, you migth think that I´m finished:

IMG_0874_zps328bdbe3.jpg

But reality plays its tricks and you end up having these 2 unwanted chippings:

IMG_0873_zps4b9c2f0d.jpg

So I will need to paint those unwanted chips with RAL 7034...... could be a diffuclt task, but let´s see.

Daniel, in fact i simply followed your tutorial on the GG forums http://501st.de/articles.php?article_id=2 no paint runs there :P

Yeah, but in fact I was scarred of overdoing it with my not existing spray-painting skills, so that I stopped when everything was white :laugh1:

It's interesting how things evolve...

As I started my journey to TK-hood I wanted everything perfect, seamless, and sparkling white, but as my research went on and finally getting started on my own kit I now really appreciate the bruised and bumped the quick and dirty. It's funny how things evolve. :)

Really love your work here. :)

Thank you!

Yeah I felt exactly like you. In the beginning you want to be a white shiny new stormtrooper and when you move on you want to become a battle-hardened veteran with all the accurate flaws.

Gonna do that with my next armor :-)

Lol...you'll laughing...there's definitely paint runs, but I have for the moment no good pics to show you....

Your build is really good so far and I'm happy, that you find my tutorial helpfully :)
