Ketariniii Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread328087/pg1 Though the chance of an actual impact is slim, NASA still doesnt know if it will happen or not for sure. In short, Keep an eye on the sky. Quote
Smitty Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 We should start stocking up on beer now, that way we'll be ready for the armor party. Might as well get one more good one in... Quote
Ketariniii Posted January 22, 2008 Author Report Posted January 22, 2008 Yes it would. Apparently if it doesnt impact us this year itll be even closer when it comes back in 8 years or so. Quote
shinnco[501st] Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 If only those friggen furballs and that kid had left the darn death star alone we could just blow that little puppy right out of the sky. Quote
john danter Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Interesting I love this story....NASA, in a desperate search to get a pen that would still work in zero gravity, spent millions on a device that would write upside down, sideways and all in zero G. The ink always flowed to the nib and wrote well. The Russians used a pencil Quote
TK4205 Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Kind of exciting actually. I've alway wondered if I would live to see the end of the world. Otherwise it would be like falling asleep before the movie is over. It's been a good movie. I hope there's a sequel. Quote
TK-4510[501st] Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Yeah, 400,000 miles in pretty close for a 300 meter wide asteroid.... Quote
TK4205 Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Anybody got a compass? .....mine is going haywire. It swings from NE to NW for a long time before it settles on north. Quote
Marvinrobot Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 While that would suck...it sure does look like some type of viral marketing. Anyone know of any game that's coming out? To me the contrived attempt at spirituality in the last paragraph just seems too Hollywood. If this was for real and the person writting it was really concerned the last thing I would expect them to use is some esoteric term for God like "Great Spirit". There are no atheists in fox holes and most people play it safe by calling God "God". Anyways, when's the armor party and do I need to bring chips! Quote
trooperstormy Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 I guess there is a big one passing us right now [Jan 28-29] And may go hit Mars. Quote

trooperstormy Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Wow look how close this got!!!!! The asteroid "2007 TU24" just passes us at 10:33 US pacific time!!!! You can see it! WOW! Check out this diagram! Earth is covered up by TU24! Quote
SethB6025[501st] Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 They've been showing it missing the Earth since they've been tracking it. The chances were far less than 50/50, something like 1 in several thousand, even in the last few weeks. 300,000 miles is close, but the moon is an average of 238,855 miles away to put that into perspective. "Close to satellites" News is best gotten from multiple sources. Quote
