ATA is awesome when it comes to helping troopers with odd parts, hope it won't be too long until you have your replacement :D

Leo,

I don't see the voice amp devices in your list. Will you troop without that?

Ā

Update: ATA replacement part can be ready in a week :) Thanks ATA!

Ā

Aha! so that's who delays the ATA for my turn in the waiting list. :)

I will adding the electronics later. I think a fan kit is higher up on my wish list than the voice stuff.

Ā

I still need to get all this stuff together. I have more pics to post and will update within the week with my progress so far.

I would recommend the fans before voice, fans really help on those really hot troops, makes all the difference from being comfortable or ending up with bucket full of sweat :D

I made some progress on the Thermal Detonator:

I would file a little more in the corners of the teeth, makes them stand out more defined. Nice work on the TD :)

I did another mod to my hyperfirm E-11. I wasn't happy with the flat blank barrel so I created a reflective red insert. Click here for tutorial.

My materials:

I also used a glass microscope slide to create the glare effect you see in the first shot. I may do a tutorial later if people would be interested in that sort of thing. I finally installed the D-ring as well using this tutorial.

Nice job on the reflective barrel. I would be interested to see more pictures of how you did it. Overall looks like you are making good progress. Keep it up!

I made a bit more progress on my lid. I'm still waiting on some stencils to finish painting the stripes in.

I am having a heck of a time figuring out my ears and so I'm looking for some locals to help. I am also a little confused because my cuts won't allow me to rivet the bottom like in the tutorial I was following. I am looking at possible drilling above the stripes to hold things in place while I shaped the ears. But I don't know.... any suggestions?

More helmet progress. I'm just about done. My right ear(as you were the helmet) was botched by me. A fellow Georgia garrison member helped me get the general shape but when I trimmed it down I trimmed too much. I also botched my backup early on when I didn't know how to work the dremel. I have a replacement coming in this week. Thanks to gazmosis for the replacement!

Botched Right (too trimmed down):

****My painting details in the trapezoids on the lid were rounded to achieve Centurion. I just used a toothpick to pick the paint off.

Inside the lid.

My velcro strips. I only used the hard prickly side for these pads. It adheres VERY well. This arrangement worked well for my dome. Your head my vary.

Not the best pic. But there is a small pad up top and a large pad below it. Also in the front above the lens is one small pad.

Any advice on the bulges in the S-trim?

Ā

Also I realize in my last post I don't have the screws painted or the third (bottom) screw in. I plan on completing that this week.

I wish I had painted the inside of my helmet like that... Ā Looks great! Ā  :duim:

Thanks! I found black acrylic paint works great for touching mine up. Maybe you can use that instead of spraypaint.

The helmet looks good. Ā The profile of the ears is good, but I would keep the same shape and size then down to make them slimmer.

Hey Leo!!! Nice job so far!!! You haven't botched the ears at all. In fact, you have quite the ways to go. Like Nick posted above with the great pic of the original helmet, the round part of the ear is quite shallow when finished.Ā  Here is a pic of an ATA helmet with a finished right ear.031.jpgThis is the ear prior to installation. You can see how shallow the round part is. Here is the ear installed front and back.037.jpg030.jpg

Ears do look a little large, but nice shaping

Ok. I'll keep working them. Thanks for the pics gazmosis.

Ā

I also did some strapping work with the wire brackets.

I still need to add the side straps and size the shoulder straps. Then I can get back to working on the arms and legs... Still much to do. :smiley-sw013:
