Echo[TK] Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) Hi, Given the current snag with TK Boots. I've been looking around for alternatives. Would these boots be acceptable for Centurion level after painting white? Edited January 23, 2022 by gmrhodes13 photo updated Quote
Sonnenschein Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 I see no reason why not... Quote
Echo[TK] Posted February 22, 2013 Author Report Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) Oh crud, just noticed those boots are made of a rubber that looks like leather... How about these from Camper? --------- Edited January 23, 2022 by gmrhodes13 link not working removed Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 I wouldn't recommend that. Too low shafts. Not only inaccurate, but potentially painful when you have your shins on and start walking. Quote
Echo[TK] Posted February 22, 2013 Author Report Posted February 22, 2013 Ok thx... The hunt continues. Quote
Echo[TK] Posted February 22, 2013 Author Report Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) How about these? Provided the sole is painted black too..---------- Nevermind.. Same issue as the camper with the tops being too low... I'll keep searching Edited January 23, 2022 by gmrhodes13 link not working removed Quote

Now i have to remove the sewn circle logo and dye with angelus white leather paint as showed here Quote Painting the shoes is simple. The Angelus paints have good coverage, and are easy to work with. When applying light colors over dark leather, expect to use multiple coats. I had to use 5 coats to cover black leather with white paint, but other colors usually work fine with 2-3 coats. Allow the paint to dry between coats, I recommend at least 20 minutes. As with most paints, several thin coats is better than one thick one! the light stamped logo will be oscured by the armor ---------- Edited January 23, 2022 by gmrhodes13 link not working removed Quote
Echo[TK] Posted February 23, 2013 Author Report Posted February 23, 2013 Yea, I have a feeling even as small as it is, obscuring the logo wouldn't be possible. I found these: http://www.brogini.com/product_detail.cfm?id=JB Nothing in the US though.. Quote

SorenM[TK] Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 How about finding a pair from Loake in the UK? I have several pairs of boots from this brand, I know they are a bit expensive, but handcrafted, Goodyear welted shoes will last a lifetime, and they are a pleassure to walk in. http://herringshoes.co.uk/product-info.php?&brandid=7&shoeid=231 Quote
longboard8 Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 Take that back, I'm not sure whether the Brogini jodhpurs have a label and I dont see one on the pics on the internet. Some of their other shoes do have a label. Maybe somebody who lives in the UK could tell us or you could call them. Honestly, I think somebody from the 501st should approach Nocona boots with the appropriate design and get them on board. When Star Wars VII comes out, they will be positioned and ready to go. I think they are part of Justin, but they are smaller and might look at it as a good investment. Quote
longboard8 Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 If you are in the states, Cole Haan Air Stantion Chelsea runs about 125-130 per pair. Not cheap but I suspect they will meet the need. Quote
Logon Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 How about these then? They are women size but go up to UK9 don't know if they can be worn by men but i guess they do? if your feet are small enough to fit a 8 or a 9 then maybe these boots could be ok to use with just a small amount of painting to do to them etc. until you can get your hands on a pare of TK one's. just a thought... They look the part but, they only go up to womens size 9, and more importantly, they are made of plastic through and through, probably won't last, and I doubt they are comfortable to wear...just my 2 cents... maxsteele[TK] Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 I didn't want to start another thread, and didn't want to risk hijacking someone else's thread, but this thread seems the appropriate place for my post. I've been doing some research into boots to get, and here are a couple I have found. Locitus[Admin] Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 Nope. Have a look at the original boots found in our gallery "photo references" and you'll learn why those won't do and what to look for next. The link is up top, under our logo. Quote

Well then, I'm going to have a hell of a time finding boots - because the second one I linked to from zappos looks *exactly* like the photo reference boot. It's just a darker black. Which if these are getting painted, it'll be white. If there's something wrong with them, I'm just not seeing it. EDIT: I just realized - this thread is specifically for Centurion certification. I should make a new thread, because I'm looking for boots for 501st / EIB certification. DOUBLE EDIT: Ok, I think I see - it's because the elastic part isn't in a U shape. Which is 501st cert level. Man, it's going to be difficult to find boots. Edited August 12, 2013 by maxsteele Quote
SorenM[TK] Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 That all depends how much you are willing to pay.... Take a look in this thread: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/24742-tk-boots-a-list-of-suitable-candidates/ Quote

The way they are sewn, giving them that extra seam ("tongue") on the front, is the bigger issue, the front must be all smooth. The soles also appear a bit too large......and the DocMartens also have the brand name embossed, that is a no go as well. Edited August 17, 2013 by SorenM Quote
longboard8 Posted August 18, 2013 Report Posted August 18, 2013 (edited) I just got some Brogini Jodhpurs. They are acceptable for 501 and nice. Not going for Centurion myself. Half size was a bit difficult to get and mine are probably too tight, butthey are reasonably priced and I have no other complaints. No markings other than the pull strap which can be removed.
