kecro Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 Tonight i found something what i thought was a hair/cloth fiber on my chest plate but turned out to be a crack starting to run down the front and tinny stress crack forming on both side of the crack as well. I've only trooped in it 2 twice since getting approved. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 add some fabric or abs scrap to the back and glue down with e-6000. Quote
Shortstormtrooper Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 whaa kind of armor is it? Quote
pattrooper Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 Yes definately deal with this problem from the inside of the armor. Quote
pattrooper Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 Also what worries me somtimes is that my armor would be to tight and cause cracks, check that situation. Quote
kecro Posted February 7, 2013 Author Report Posted February 7, 2013 Ok thanks Vern i've saved all my extra abs scraps and i still have 2 full strips. Patrick it doesn't feel tight on me at all. One other thing I noticed that my chest feels thinner than the rest of my pieces? Quote
Tray[TK] Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 Also what worries me somtimes is that my armor would be to tight and cause cracks, check that situation. THis is why mine has cracked in a few places. I have patched them but after 5 years it is slowing coming to the time where I will need to replace it. Quote
Kessel Run[TK] Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) the T-shirt material and crazy glue works well here as well. those pesky return edges flex a little everytime you pick up your armor maybe if this continues reinforce all your return edges. pain in the butt, but worth considering, maybe. Stinger[TK] Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 Same happened to me yesterday - did you manage to stop the crack from going further with a piece of scrap on the inside? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 That easily happens when you have too much return edge. Remove some of it and then re-enforce from behind to stop it from spreading. Quote
kecro Posted August 17, 2013 Author Report Posted August 17, 2013 I took care of the crack at the top. Since then another has popped up on my left side I tried patching it and it didn't hold so got to try again Quote
Tolo[TK] Posted August 17, 2013 Report Posted August 17, 2013 I used some E-6000 and HIPS. Seem to be doing the job Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted August 18, 2013 Report Posted August 18, 2013 returns on the chest and AB crack when the armor is flexed the wrong direction. the return on the lower chest plate really can't be removed and my AP armor has a crack in the chest return, and a crack in the top abdomen return. I used e6000 and some white fabric to hold it together. Quote
Irish501st Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Before you going adding a scrap piece to the inside fill the crack with acrylic nail filler, then add/glue in scrap backing piece inside to firm the area. Quote
kevnaminute Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Had a similar crack on the return edge at the bottom of my chest. I guess it came from lifting my arms and the chest plate getting stuck on top of the ab and popping. I used super glue since you can't really see it. Quote
