Just now getting around to really start working on my armor that ive had now for 3months now haha.

Heres my armor all laid out. My reaction like most was " Holy S**T!"

So after trimming most of the excess off I decided to do the bucket first.

003.jpg

Bucket was a pain to fit nothing seemed like it was made to go together!

The opening seemed all caddywhompus(sp?)

as if that wasnt enough of a pain it was all crooked

Got the paints in since I am wanting to go centurion asap. Followed pandatroopers idea on painting the black first which I think turned out pretty good.

colored in grey and did the mic tips.

Had to wait on tube strips from a guy at work who had to make them for me.

016.jpg

Decided I wanted to paint the inside so I used spray plastidip to coat the inside. I still need to go in and finish the white areas.

Wanted to show the guys at my unit (308th Psyop Battlion!) my progress.

After that picture is when I pretty muched stopped. Working on all the fitted pieces seemed tough plus I work two jobs plus Im a weekend warrior. So since i had little confidence I reached out to my local garrison's forums which turned out to be pretty dead.

Finally I got ahold of Hockeytrooper who didnt live far from me and we got together to have a mini armor party and worked on my biceps.

Now that confindence was once again instilled in me I need a place to work on my armor besides work. My wife has been on a Pintrest kick and keeps showing me pallet furniture. My wife then came up with the idea to make a workbench outta pallets so Bam I made two pallet work benches and plan on making one more for a total of 10+ft of working space glory!

Now ive taken off the last few days to really work to really get this thing going.

Tried doing the vents but I think my paint brush was a little large plus I think I had to much coffee. I couldn't keep my hand steady. So I might paint over them to try again.

You can thin out the black vents with gray to save you over painting them.

You may have used the wrong blue on the AB buttons.

They should be the same colour as your lighter tube stripes.

BillHag has posted a colour chart in the tutorials area saying what colors to use and where.

Good luck.

I had seen a photo somewhere that was debating which color it was the French blue and the midnight blue and the photos it seemed darker but from a distance it looks black so I do prefer the French blue better. Once it dries il'l go back over it. I hate painting haha.

Looking good, we'll have you out and trooping in no time! You, MisterFubar and I can be the KC ATA crew. That'll look sharp.

Working on my right forearm and wondering if the amount of space is normal? I can see adding padding to make to snug but im afraid it will fall down my arm to far? Will the gloves and handguard be enough to keep it from slipping off?

I'd need to see the whole forearm to comment really.

The wrist end needs to be wide enough to get your hand through, while the forearm should also be form fitted to your arm shape.

At the elbow end, it should be the same thickness as your arm.

You can add a small amount of padding and you can strap the forearm to your bicep to stop it dropping all the way Down to your wrist with your arms straight down.

Is the wrist hole as small as you can go?

Don't forget, when you remove the front return edge, the hole will look even bigger and be bigger.

I'm not saying what you have done is wrong,

I am saying to get it the best form fitted you can to your body shape.

I've cut all the return edge off and I think it's the way I tapered it that is leaving to much near my elbow that's making it feel loose.

I didn't look too big on your arm, but if you feel it's too big still then trim it.

For me, I would have 7.5mm flat bits with a 15mm cover strip over the top.

I would measure my arms and forearm diameter to make sure it fits.

I don't use a dremmell anywhere on a suit, I use two types of scissors for all my trimming everywhere.

The curved lexan modeling scissors for most trimming and some large straight scissors for straight lines such as for these forearm butt joints.

You can easily pencil mark and cur off 1mm straight lines or tapers with straight scissors.

You can't really adjust the size of your forearm since you are forced to go with the moulded in joining strip. Don't worry if you think it looks too big. It will be fine once you have your whole suit on. Just strap it to your bicep to keep it in place and pad if you need to. Keep the forearm up close to your bicep to reduce the gap between them which will reduce the chance of pinching.

just started my thighs and ran into a little problem. I cut some of the excess off and taped it to see how much I needed to trim. Glad I didnt trim to much off since it is pretty tight. I trimmed as much of the return edge I could without it disappearing. I am about 5'7" and 195lbs so I could stand to loose a few pounds. The measurment on my thigh is around 25inches which I guess is a little large. The thigh fits sorta I cannot bend my leg much at all since it has to sit pretty low. So my question is there anything I can do to mod this and at the current width it is will I need to make my cover stripes bigger? I think the best answer to this issue is loose some weight but that also stops me from getting it done till I do. Here are a few pics.

Not to show my butt off or anything but you can kinda see (not the best picture) how tight it is at the top. There isnt any gap at all.

the top of the thigh is pretty snug as well.

I seen you can add shims but will that stop me from getting centurion? Also doesnt it look kinda bad?

Posted

After doing more research and seeing pictures it seems I can still get centurion. Thanks Paul your advice is always helpful.

My hand guards came in last Saturday! Thanks Karin! Tkboots finally has boots my size! They come in Thursday this week so I'm going to wait to fit my shins till I get them. Question bottom of shins is there a return edge?

I just rounded the edge on the bottom of my shins just to stop them catching on the boots. Going well keep up the good work :salute:

Kinda stuck at the moment turns out I forgot to buy those high speed magnets.

Are there any other methods of holding down the cover strips until my magnets come in?

Also I'm having a hard time with my shins not wanting to close in the backs is heat bending something that will fix this

You can just use some clamps on the ends and then tape around your cover strips. I had 20 magnets and they weren't enough, tape worked well for me. I found my backs wouldn't close very well so I applied some heat on both sides of the backs of the shins while putting some pressure down, this was enough to flatten the cover strip, now they close perfectly. Keep up the good work :salute:
