jnnfr72[TK] Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Hi! Here are some pics for your enjoyment. I'm starting my hubby's RT Mod (ANH) build thread. Got the Under suit and TK Boots on the same day before Thanksgiving. I'm forcing him to pose. From Canada to Virginia( I think ?) to Germany, back to Virginia, then to Indiana. I'm the proud builder of some well travelled RT Mod armor! This was DDAY's, but I have it for my hubby now. I'll try to do you proud, Derrek! Check out Derrek's most awesome HOLSTER there, too. THANKS!!! lots of wrapping! Just like Christmas for me. lots of bucket pics... Yah, I didn't wait on Greg to unwrap his present... muu waa haaa haaa... I made a mess. more angles on the laid out armor... I noticed a few differences between my AP and Greg's RT mod. The shoulder straps and knee ammo belt are already curved. Nice! RT Mod has the belly buttons already attached. Cool! My AP doesn't have the "thumb print" in the bicep. I'll be using the BUTT JOIN err cover strip joining method. I think these cuts/marks are important. I'll research more. My AP was overlapped, but i also added cover strips. Extreme closeup for no good reason... Just being silly. Getting some sun Comparing RT Mod and big boot to AP and boot. RT Mod is to your left / AP to your right. Besides the boots, there's not as big a difference as i was expecting in helmets. RT is left, AP is to your right. RT is left; AP is to your right: Greg's is black, mine is pink! Thanks for looking. I hope to have some progress this weekend after my future trooper gets home. I might start glueing the fronts of parts, but without him here to test fit, i can't go too far. He's going for EI, and maybe beyond. Quote

Dday[501st] Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Awww, how cute are those little boots! Great deal and great photos. Those little tabs on the thighs can probably be trimmed off, but wait until after fitting, because if there is a gap on the bottom as you see in a lot of builds, this tab will be great to help reinforce and fill that gap. Rezablad3[TK] Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 it looks like its going to be a very merry Christmas.....love the armor being near the Christmas tree Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Jenny, Have you seen BIDS' build thread? He may be the first to every assemble RT with cover strips. Oh and... paint that vocoder would ya? -Eric Quote
jnnfr72[TK] Posted November 28, 2012 Author Report Posted November 28, 2012 I will do my homework and check out BIDS tonight. Paint my vocoder or Greg's? Mine doesnt go all the way to the rubber trim, and Greg's looks skinny. Thanks for the tips! Jenny, Have you seen BIDS' build thread? He may be the first to every assemble RT with cover strips. Oh and... paint that vocoder would ya? -Eric Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 I assumed that the RT helmet vocoder is a sticker. Make with the paint if it is -Eric Quote
captsafe66[Admin] Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Ohhh...Shiney!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'll have it ready this weekend...Right? Quote
jnnfr72[TK] Posted November 29, 2012 Author Report Posted November 29, 2012 Oh - yes.... stickers are on Greg's. Ok - I will look into that! This weekend?.... Um... it might take me about 20 more weekends. Quote
BIDS[TK] Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 (edited) Congrat's on receiving your RT-Mod, it's beautiful armor. Please find my replies in BLUE , have fun with your build. I'll be using the BUTT JOIN err cover strip joining method. I think these cuts/marks are important. I'll research more. My AP was overlapped, but i also added cover strips. That's great that Rob's left those tabs when he trimmed your armor, it will make things much easier for you to line up and get a nice neat butt join on the mold. Definitely agree, much easier with this Tab left there to allow you to fine tune it yourself. Jenny, Have you seen BIDS' build thread? He may be the first to every assemble RT with cover strips. Here come the Cover Stripped RT-Mod's!!! Oh and... paint that vocoder would ya? -Eric Edited November 29, 2012 by BIDS Quote
jnnfr72[TK] Posted November 29, 2012 Author Report Posted November 29, 2012 Thanks, Craig! I'll be looking to your build for tips! Quote
Dday[501st] Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 (edited) I remember that when I opened the helmet and looked at it, everything is sticker. Ears, frown, vocoder. It is a very well done sticker set, but still a sticker and perfect, which makes it imperfect. I spoke with Boomshakra about the stickers and he said they are very sticky and leave a lot of residue behind, so if you plan on hand painting, know there is a lot of clean up to get a smooth bucket, it shouldn't stop you if you and your hubby want to build to centurion, just so you're forewarned! TK-42779[501st] Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Does anyone like the "hand painted" sticker look? I ordered these for my RT kit to go Centurion with. I have been searching Centurion builds to see these on a bucket but haven't run across anything yet. Quote
Dday[501st] Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 I actually bought these as well, but decided if I was going to do that, I might as well actually hand paint, it's fun and more accurate. Quote
jnnfr72[TK] Posted November 29, 2012 Author Report Posted November 29, 2012 Yer scaring me.... Actually, it's better to know what I have in store than to be bolivious. This will be all my build. I haven't told the hubby to be enthuisiastic about it.. yet. haaa haaa... I remember that when I opened the helmet and looked at it, everything is sticker. Ears, frown, vocoder. I think there are a ton of Centurion with hand painted stickers.... while I'm not Centurion yet here are the hand painted stickers on my RT (with the wrong ear screws too): Here's Boomshakra's RT helmet from his Centurion request thread: Quote
TK-42779[501st] Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Eric - I forgot that you have those on your lid. Thanks. Also....I have been looking into this recently. What's wrong with the ear screws? -"Ears shall have three screws per side, one above and one below the ear bar and one at the base of the helmet." Quote

What's wrong with the ear screws? -"Ears shall have three screws per side, one above and one below the ear bar and one at the base of the helmet." Rounded heads. The DO will pass you with them but they're not right IMHO. My RT helmet only had two screws above and below the ear rank. I bought a cheap electrical socket cover that came with prepainted white screws that match the ones Rob uses. The ear screws should look more like this one (from the helmet ATA kit): Here's the Dave M helmet from Starwarshelmets.com showing the flat flatheads: Quote
TK-42779[501st] Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Ah okay. Thanks for that. I have bought pretty much everything I need while waiting for my kit from Rob and have been looking at these little details. I guess that's an example of what people talk about when they say that you're never really done modding your kit even after approval. lol I can see that being something I change in the future. Quote
jnnfr72[TK] Posted November 30, 2012 Author Report Posted November 30, 2012 Hey - good info on the screws and stickers guys! I'm REALLY feeling the pressure to go BEYOND the EI level. I'm so SCARED! I've got pictures of cookies my (Eveel) twin and I created last night. They should taste better then they look! [Yah... cookies have nothing to do with Greg's build thread...] We don't look alike for twins... THANK the LORD. Not sure if these are ANH or ESB or RotJ..?! But, they are yummy. Got some red and green Death Star cookies, too. Battle damage Here's my taped up hubby armor. I'll be shoving him into it tonight after he gets home from 5 days in a hotel for work. He's not gonna be happy... until he gets his awesome armor on! Quote
Ravenwood[TK] Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 looking good, I really need to get motivated on mine. I finished my helmet and need to get the armor done. I know if I just cracked into it I could get it done in a couple of weeks. Quote

I know if I just cracked into it I could get it done in a couple of weeks. You can do it!! Start with small parts if that helps. Plan on working on one piece per week... set smaller goals. It can be intimidating. I took a break from my 1st build for a half a year. I'm feeling better about this build, tho. Quote
jnnfr72[TK] Posted December 1, 2012 Author Report Posted December 1, 2012 (edited) Here's Greg's test fit. So far I'm a bit worried over the chest and back. The forearms need to be bigger at the wrists, the thighs need taken in, and everything else seems A-OK. lots n lots of painters tape... Helmet is REALLY snug... I'll take out some foam. It's nice b/c it's velcroed in. probably need to tighten up the biceps a bit... got his neck and hands measured... need to get gloves from Karin and neckseal, too. a lot of black showing... I don't know about all the black and the chest placement...? Those thighs are too big. Need help on the CHEST PIECE. Edited December 1, 2012 by jnnfr72 Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 Scoot the ab/cod up and the chest will come up... so will the kidney to meet the back. You can see in the butt shot that its all hanging too low like a saggy ABS diaper. What happens with the tall dudes is that the space between the ab buttons and the bottom edge of the chest is quite large compared to the ones you see on screen. It's better to have the chest up properly I think. Here are a couple blatantly narcissistic photos of me and the placement of my chest... I actually think my ab/cod is a little low in these photos. I may need to shorten the elastic between chest and ab a bit to lower the chest and raise the ab. Oh and my drop box elastics were hot glued on right before we arrived and also hang too low. That's been corrected. I'm all the way to the left... obviously. Would you believe those are RT-MOD shins on Julie? For reals: Never mind the FX guy... ..but we have cheerleaders. The short dude is an unweathered TD that just got deployed over on MEPD. -Eric Quote
