I'm working on the thighs for my ATA kit. When assembling it I have had to go with a 30mm strip for the front, and on the back, which is pictured here, I am looking at having to do a 40mm strip. My question is will this be ok and does it look ok?

It is a bit big, but as I have seen said several times if it's required due to the size of your legs, it is acceptable. The biggest thing is the proportions. You have done the ridges well so the coverstrip is right on the edge and as long as both sides mimic that, you should have no problem.

Troopers come in all shapes, sizes, and genders... as long as you're human and the thighs fit your human size, then what I see above looks pretty darn good :D

How dare you exclude my species, Ingrid. Mawgs make great stormtroopers once we figured out how to tuck in our tail.

My thighs have a 27mm Strip for the front and a 40mm strip on the back. Works fine! :)
