kupertrooper Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 What's the best way to attach/glue hard lenses and frown mesh to the inside of your helmet? I've read that some use hot glue. Is that what everyone does? Seems like that would be messy. Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 My experience: Mesh: one helmet I used hot glue, the other I used E6000 for the mesh. I found the E6000 to be a little easier to deal with, as the hot glue hardened a bit quicker than I wanted it to. also got into the exposed teeth area too much and was a PITA to deal with. Lens: I used the single peice hard lens for both buckets. One is attached with the ear screws. the other is simple gaffe taped in. Quote
kupertrooper Posted November 9, 2012 Author Report Posted November 9, 2012 Is gaffe tape the same as duct tape? Quote
Clamps[TK] Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 (edited) Gaffe tape (gaffer tape) is what we use in video and event production. typically cloth, very strong, the adhesive is strong but forgiving (think what happens when duct tape folds over on itself), but leaves little to no residue. White or black Duct tape would also work if that is what you have handy. Edit: it also costs about 3x as much as duct tape Edited November 9, 2012 by chookaboom Quote
CRISTONAMO Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 heres my helmet Really just duct tape everywhere. It works and its easily removable in you want your lens/mesh replaced. And I decided to cut the eyes to shape and tape them in too. I found it too hard to position the thick welders mask in correctly in one full piece. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 (edited) if you use white tape in smaller amounts it looks much better, and you can remove the mesh or lens to replace or clean with no problems at all. just carry a roll of white tape in your bag... easy.
