Aveng Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 (edited) After putting my ATA lid together I noticed that when I look at it from the top side down it looks warped or twisted. Is this normal? Thanks! Edited November 7, 2012 by Aveng Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 It's supposed to be asymmetric and wonky. Quote
Aveng Posted November 7, 2012 Author Report Posted November 7, 2012 Thanks....I will take some pics today and post later. I'm not too worried about it just wanted to make sure I am on the right track! Quote
Dday[501st] Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 Yeah, all of the screen accurate lids are warped and do not look right when you examine then closely for spacing and evenness. Ā Basically, as long as the edge of your eye pretty much lines up on both sides with the trap on the dome, you've got the right placement. Quote
SWAMPTHING[TK] Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 I found my ATA bucket a bit wonky but my head is a bit wonky, I had to do a mod under one of the eye pieces so it would fit better with my once broken nose. but no one notices the wonkyness. Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 Starwarshelmets.com (great site if you haven't seen it already) has a sweet image showing off the wonkyness of the original helmets, and why the symmetrical ones look weird. Quote
Nicky Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 Yep, drunk is the look we are after. Not weird. Quote
Darth Hilarious Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 If screen-derived lids are drunk, Are FX lids on bad mushrooms or what? /philosoraptor Quote

Locitus[Admin] Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 I typo'd mushrooms but I've fixed it now. Quote
Darth Hilarious Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 shouldn't have said anything We'd have been none the wiser We'll make a Stealth Trooper of you yet Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 shouldn't have said anything We'd have been none the wiser We'll make a Stealth Trooper of you yet I want them to see me coming. Ā Wow, that can be taken out of context... Quote
Nicky Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 (edited) And now the out-of-context laughing wh****. Ā Ā Ā Aveng, I think we settled that it is the way it should be and nobody should ever look at a stormtrooper from top side down anyway. Edited November 13, 2012 by Nicky Quote
Darth Hilarious Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 this thread is making my sides hurt I think my head has gone wonky At least the lid will fit better Quote

Is this normal? Thanks! Ā Yes it is normal. Every single piece of the original armour and helmets are not symetrical and it's about everyone got that into their heads. They were hand sculpted and not CNC machined to make them nice and pretty. They are warped, twisted, lopsided, uneven, and so on. Nothing is symetrical or perfect mirror images left and right. Every piece is a unique shape. Ā Take a look at this original hero. Ā Ā Now look at it flpped. Ā Get the squeeky clean, perfect Stormtrooper vision out of your head becasue it just doesn't exist with real props. Edited January 21, 2021 by Sly11 Edited to restore images Sly11 2021 Quote
Darth Hilarious Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 yeah those FX lids might be symmetrical, but they're a bad trip for sure Quote
DudeSidious Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 If you really want to see how wonky they are, looking over the top of your helmet. The face plate faces a different direction to the cap. Quote
DudeSidious Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 Whoops I just re read you 1st post Its ealy in morning here.. Quote
MxPxRobbie[TK] Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 Wish I had seen this yesterday... I was assembling my ATA over and over again trying to get it symmetrical. I ended up with a bunch of holes in the sides... luckily they all were covered by the ears Ā Quote
Aveng Posted November 14, 2012 Author Report Posted November 14, 2012 Wow....Glad I started this topic.....lol! Going to have another drink! Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 Nothing from the original trilogy is symmetric. That's what you get when it's hand sculpted instead of that silly CGI. Quote
