Howdy. I'm currently stationed in Ramstein Air Base in Germany and will be traveling to new jersey area in November for a couple of days training at McGuire Air Force Base. I'm interested in buying a star wars supreme edition costume (Boba Fett, Stormtrooper, etc) so that I can surprise my son in his Birthday Party. Can anyone recommend a store in the New Jersey/NYC area? Please support your troop (no pun intended).

Welcome to the FISD Juny, do you like Rheinland-Pfalz, where you are stationed?

Whats your intention of buying a costume?

Do you just want to surprise your son, or do you maybe want to join the 501st legion later?

The rubies supreme costume look here: --> http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/5718-warning-about-commercially-available-stormtrooper-armor/

It´s almost not approvable for the 501st you would need to mod it extensively.

For a halloween costume e.g. the rubies supreme stormtrooper is okay, everybody would recognize that you are a stormtrooper, but consider, it costs at least 650 $ or more and for that amount of bucks you can get yourself a screen accurate armor from one of the vetted makers here --> have a look:http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/

The only thing is that you would need to build the armor yourself, but it will look a thousand times better than the Rubies stuff.

Sorry, but I can´t recommend you a store in NYC, 4000 miles are too much.

Don´t hesitate to ask any further questions ;)

Steffen,

Thanks for the note. I'm currently stationed In Ramstein.

We are celebrating my son's 6th birthday next month (17 Nov). What makes this birthday special is that: 1. I wont be deployed this time and 2. My son chose the Star Wars theme for the party :-).

My wife and I were trying to contact a group in the Rheinland-Pfalz area to see if they could swing by the party in their Star Wars costumes to surprise my son... of course I'm ready to pay for the service; but unfortunately i've been unsuccesful. But since I will be traveling to New Jersey 6-10 Nov; I figured that this trip is a great opportunity to buy an outfit (try it on to make sure it fits) and show up all dressed up for the kids.

This is the main reason why I want to buy the costume...to wear it in my son's birthday party; then again, I don't mind having a costume that is approved by the 501st. :-)

As of today the Boba Fett costume would be my 1st choice and the Stormtrooper one a very close 2nd.

My son is turning 6th but this is the first birthday we are celebrating for him (I've been deployed most of the time) and we want to go all out.

Hope someone can help me out with this dilema.

Yes, exactly what he said! For the money, you'd be better off buying a kit from a vetted maker here.

Rubies supreme Stormtrooper suits run about $1000. Plus probably at least $100 worth of replacement parts...not counting the helmet, which should go directly in the trash and be replced with a EFX or a kit from a vetted maker here. A full stormtrooper kit from a vetted maker here could run as low as $495. And you will need to get an undersuit and strapping and such. Total cost for a nice Stormie would be about 1,100 or so. But it will fit you correctly and be higher quality and much better looking.

The rubies will need to be restrapped at the very least so it will stay on you. It really should be taken apart and re assembled to fit you properly. All that is just to get it to look ok. The makers here sell kits you'd have to assemble, but at least you woulnt have to take them apart first lol. So its really less work and less money to get a kit form a maker here, that is assuming you want it for more than just 1 day to surprise your son.

Most of the makers have a wait time of at the very very least, 2 weeks, so for November 17th...you MAY be able to swing it if you can get a kit quick enough.

As for a store in NYC that carries Rubies Supreme stuff...Halloween adventure near 14th st in NYC usually carries it.

Maybe renting one would be more the way to go for what you want to do, assuming you can find one for rent.

The same goes true for the Rubies Supreme Boba Fett. Man it is AWFUL and Very expensive. But for a 6yr old..it may be just fine. Again, possibly renting would be a good option :)

A decent Boba Fett suit will run you $3000. Mine is at about $5,500 at this point, just to give you some perspective. :)

Lou,

Thanks for the information. What would you recommend for a decent Boba costume?

Wish I could rent...but I'm stationed In Germany. I'll be in the US for a couple of days.

There has GOT to be someone i n the German Garrison, or even AT Rammstein that could help him out with this, right? Give us all the details, and we could post an appearance request on the 501st and/or German Garrison Boards...

yea, i meant rent out there, but i have no idea whats available to you in Germany lol.

Well as far as commercially available, the Rubies Supreme Boba Fett is the only one i know of. It looks...ok but the cost is what kills it for me. If it was $300 it would be fine. But it is usually over $600. I dont know of any other option :(

The nice Boba suits are made by a bunch of different makers making different parts and can take at the very least 6 months and upwards to build depending on your budget and when certain makers are making certain parts and how long it takes to make them. Its quite a process.

I agree with Jonathan...there really should be SOMEONE from the german garrison willing to stop by!

If you really want Fett...try asking over on thedentedhelmet.com I know of at least 3 Fetts that are from Germany over there.

So. Juny, have you asked the German Garrison? The german group of the 501st Legion?

Look here: http://501st.de/request-a-trooper.php I don´t know how good your german is, but I could help you to write the request in german.

So far I´m no member of the GG, but there will probably be some german troopers out there in Rheinland-Pfalz who would love to come to your sons birthday ;-)

Maybe you will then get a taste for what the 501st does and rethink your costume idea ;-).

PM me if you need help with the request.

Jonathan/Lou/Steffen,

Thanks to all of you for taking time out of your schedules to help me out.

We are celebrating his birthday 17 November on ramstein air base. Birthday starts at 3PM and we are looking to finish up at approximately 6PM. My interest in the Fett costume is more of a personal choice if I were to buy a costume. but as far as someone showing up at the party...my son and I would be more than happy if they showed up in any Star Wars costume for at least 30 minutes. I'd be willing to escort them on base if needed.

If you do find someone that would be willing to attend (in any costume) please let me know...like I stated before I'll be willing to pay if needed to make this event a success.

Party aside..., I am seriously considering joining the 501st in the near future...with approved costume and all! Whats realy cool is that my wife (who is not a fan) actually encouraged me to do so after reading your responses to my post. Yay!

Steffen: Only word i know in German is danke :-). my German number is 063718021334 if you would like to call.

Again...thanks so much!!

If you only need the costume for the party I would look for a place to rent it for the evening instead of spending 700+ dollars on buying it, since the rubies costume is pure crap compared to what we deal with on this forum. That saves you the money to get a real armour later on to join the legion with. :)

Mathias,

Steffen is going to help me contact the German garrison and I have faith that someone will be available to show up to the party.

By the way...I will follow your advise. No rubies costume for me. :-) Looking forward to get the real deal armour to join the legion.

Juny, kids see a basic costume and see the most amazing thing ever. It doesn't fill out in our minds though. In a pinch you can check eBay.de there are a lot of costume quality setups there for under 100 euro, you know jumpsuit with detailing and a helmet. You can also find that at any costume shop in the states.

As far as getting a full costumed member, surely follow up with the gg. I just joined so am not in touch with anyone really, first troop will be nov 3rd at a sic-if convention on spangdahlem. There will be at least 12 GG storm troopers there, it might be worth your while to swing by and talk to some of them. You might get someone to stop by.
