lostin480 Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 so....I got an AM kit and it has the overlap, and from what I am reading it's better if not "more" professional to go ahead and use a butt joint with a cover strip. does that mean I have to trim the overlap completely? Quote
theisaac Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 Ya, the seams still join in the same place that they would if you overlapped. You are just cutting off the overlap and replacing it with an accurate cover strip. Most people will trim down past the overlap anyway as AM armor is so large. With my AM kit, I only had to shim the bicep, thighs, and kidney / ab plate. Just about everything else got trimmed way down. If you use the butt-joint method, your armor will fit you better anyway. You can tailor it to your body rather than the generic mould it came out of. The best thing is to tape up a test fitting starting with the forearms and post pics before you trim. We can help you make sure you have the right idea before you start. We are glad to help! Isaac Quote
Mongoose[TK] Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 Butt join looks better. Might be a little more work but it'll be worth it. Quote

lostin480 Posted October 24, 2012 Author Report Posted October 24, 2012 so before I realized you can cut away the 'overlap' i already glued biceps and forearms on each side (leaving one open) what are my options now? do I take it apart cut the overlap or leave the one side on each piece glued and do the butt joint on the open side? brokenskateboards Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 What's the width of cover strips for arms and legs? Quote
FunkyTrigger[TK] Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 For the average sized trooper, aim for 15mm on forearms and biceps. On thighs and shins, aim for 20-25mm 30mm is the biggest I have ever seen on legs that kind of works, but you need a bit of height to pull it off. Quote
theisaac Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Can you post pictures so we can see what you have so far? We can help a little better if we can see it. Did you use e6000 for glue? You can take that stuff apart without messing up your armor. Quote
Darth Hilarious Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 I'm surprised noone mentioned If you're doing ANH or ESB style, cover strips are the way to go But Overlap is correct for RotJ Quote

TK-Mosinboy[TK] Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Where about's would you purchase the Cover joint strips? Or do they come in your kit with the armour? cheers I got an RS propmasters Helmet and Armour Kit the other day just waiting for it to arrive in about 4-5 weeks.... Thanks Anton Quote
LoveMonkey[501st] Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Use the spare pieces of ABS that came with the kit to cut and make the cover strips. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
