Quixotic5891 Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 (edited) I found some scrap aluminum at work and decided to try to make my own clips. After I made them I realized that the metal I used was thicker than the ones I've seen posted. Now if I need to make new ones that's fine but I was wanting to get some opinions wether or not I could use these. ---------- Edited January 22, 2022 by gmrhodes13 link not working removed Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 Make them from thinner aluminium. But you got the shape right. Quote
Quixotic5891 Posted October 17, 2012 Author Report Posted October 17, 2012 That's what I figured....thanks! Quote
Quixotic5891 Posted October 29, 2012 Author Report Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) 2nd try at the clips how bout now? ---------- Edited January 22, 2022 by gmrhodes13 link not working removed Quote
troopermaster Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) The shape is all wrong at the back. They should not be bent inwards like that and the holes are drilled too far from the ends, assuming you want to keep them like the originals. Edited January 22, 2022 by gmrhodes13 photo updated Quote
Quixotic5891 Posted October 29, 2012 Author Report Posted October 29, 2012 I've had a hard time finding what the originals looked like so I went off TKlepers videos on the design and measurements. I might make a set like that as well since it seems easier than the one with the bend and for screen accuracy. Thanks Quote
Darth Hilarious Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Paul will always steer you right when it comes to accuracy He's pretty legendary in that department Quote
Quixotic5891 Posted October 29, 2012 Author Report Posted October 29, 2012 Troopermaster do you have the measurements for those clips so I can make a pair. I can try to guess the measurements but I like to be exact haha. Quote

troopermaster Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 The way I see it is that it is just as easy to do things the right way as it is to do it the wrong way, so get by showing or informing how the originals were done it helps you get it right first time Strips are 1 1/8" wide by approx 8" long. Quixotic5891 Posted November 6, 2012 Author Report Posted November 6, 2012 (edited) Once again lol....... they are a little short in the back but I used up what was left from my last clips --------- Edited January 22, 2022 by gmrhodes13 link not working removed Quote
Darth Voorhees[501st] Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 Those look pretty good to me! Quote
Evilboy[501st] Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 Nice looking shop by the way... Quote
Quixotic5891 Posted November 7, 2012 Author Report Posted November 7, 2012 Thxs! Just my works shop... I found some more aluminum strips at work so I might make a few more for some local guys but I wanted to make sure that the community thought these were good enough first. Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 Yo man... If you're willing to show your step by step process from start to finish including measurements these clips are tutorial worthy. Write it up! I concur... Paul's the man for this sort of thing. Here are a few other photos of a screen used thermal detonator from the lucasfilm archive section of the FISD reference gallery that may help: Aloha, -Eric Quote
Quixotic5891 Posted November 7, 2012 Author Report Posted November 7, 2012 I wish I could take credit but TKleper posted two videos showing basically the same process I'm doing. I made these for my ATA armor using 2inch PVC pipe. the strips are 1inch wide and 1/8 thick. If anyone is truly desperate I can try to make some for you. Quote
