trooper1[TK] Posted October 14, 2012 Report Posted October 14, 2012 You know, I don't mean to open up a can of worms, but the discussion came up over at the MEPD and I had to ask. When I completed my TK and TD back about 5 years ago, I was told specific that the ab plate and cod, had to remain one piece to be approved. The discussion has came up, and its sounding as though 2 piece and 1 are acceptable. The question remains, what is correct and what is not. I know that the original costumes were one piece front and 2 piece back and butt, but I am really just wondering. The CRL shows as one piece piece in the picture, but doesn't state that specific. Comments??? Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted October 14, 2012 Report Posted October 14, 2012 It was my can (so to speak) Jay is opening. It's clear to me that per the CRLs we do not require the ab/cod to one piece. As far as being "correct" for approval you can have it either way. For what is the right thing to do as far as screen accuracy and having a great looking costume I think it should be one piece. It just so happens that RT-MOD ships as two parts. I wish it wasn't. I did a wicked quick search in the det and staff areas here and I didn't see a pointed discussion on the matter, but ab and cod are not easy words to search for on ip.board. A question to guys like Daetrin and others with low userid numbers... Was there crl wording once upon a time requiring ab/cod to be one part? Aloha, -Eric Quote
FunkyTrigger[TK] Posted October 14, 2012 Report Posted October 14, 2012 Unless you are incredibly small framed. Don't cut your cod from the ab plate. TK's look much better with a high belt, just at the AB button level. When the cod is cut, new issues arise. Where will your belt be forced to sit to cover the cut line? Have you made your cod look small? A Stormtrooper looks more menacing and better with that large cod showing! If you have to cut the cod, to remove plastic and thus make the front ab panel smaller, consider where you will remove platic from? consider making the cut higher than the natural cut line of where the swage line is between cod and ab. Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted October 14, 2012 Report Posted October 14, 2012 The question at hand is not should you cut your cod. That is obvious. Just don't do it. What Trooper1 and I are asking is if was once ever mention of a split cod in the CRL. -Eric Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Daetrin[Admin] Posted October 15, 2012 Report Posted October 15, 2012 The CRL has never said explicitly that the ab plate need be one part - however we always do enforce that any cut be behind the belt. We also enforce that the cod can't bow out either, as I see frequently with cut cod plates. I always recommend people not cut the cod unless they've trooped awhile and know what they are doing and really need it. I've had to as GML several times ask people to add a shim to their cut cod so that it doesn't stick out like you have a boner and/or so that it doesn't slide around. Rather than saying "don't cut the cod", I'd rather our language be to how it appears - e.g. no visible cut line and that the plane of the ab plate needs to be vertical. Does that make sense? Quote
Dday[501st] Posted October 15, 2012 Report Posted October 15, 2012 One problem that can arise with the standard ab/cod for exceptionally tall people like me (6'6") that the normal size just doesn't fit, it's is generally to short, cutting only helps is you cut and are allowed to shim. This however has the possibility of bringing the seam below the belt... which is a nono Quote
trooper1[TK] Posted October 19, 2012 Author Report Posted October 19, 2012 Sorry, I have been out of town since posting, and just returned. Good answers. I know when I did mine, I was told that it had to be one piece, so I thought it was in the CRL. The picture in the CRL shows one piece, but it isn't specified. That is why we were asking. The actual movie costumes were never cut. Correct? So that was why the question, of why it was or was not in the CRL Quote
Daetrin[Admin] Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 the short answer of why it's not in the CRL is because it seemed self-evident. The CRL says ab plate. We never call out on any other part that people can't do modifications that are not visible. If no one can tell, why bother calling it out. This is why we never make notes of non-visible strapping, etc. Quote
Opi Wan Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 (edited) For my girlfriend I had to cut it too, because of her size. She was looking verry short legged before I cut it. Here you can see it.------------- I think sometimes it must be cut to look better. Greetings Alex Edited April 20, 2022 by gmrhodes13 link removed no longer working Quote
