Moose Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Received my ATA helmet in the mail yesterday. Excited to get things rolling. I can pretty much see the lines I need to trim at, but to be safe ill trace them, post some pics, and then get your opinions. Dont want to screw this up. Quote
Mogwai[TK] Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 That is a nice Helmet Kit you`ve got there. Have Fun building it. You find a lot of WIP Threats here on the Board. Looking forward, to see some Pics from you. Quote
Moose Posted September 10, 2012 Author Report Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) Marked the lines on my helmet. Some areas have 2 and are numbered. Im not sure which one to cut at. Also not sure if I need to trim the forehead area of the faceplate or not. Looks like it ok already. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Will sand with dremel to smoothe out the lines once cut. Mogwai[TK] Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Easy answer. Never ever cut too much. Start with Line 1 and when you think you need more trimming, cut some more. You can allways cut more, but adding Plastic is a little bit harder! Quote
Dday[501st] Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 One thing I wish I had done with my ATA is made the bottom where the two halfs connected longer, for a better connection. It's like Serge says, cut a little and cut more if you need. Most of the side cuts are hidden under the ears anyways, so leaving a little extra isn't a big deal. Quote
bjsavage7[TK] Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Just take your time & don't rush the trimming. Like they said, you can always cut more, but adding sucks. Quote
Moose Posted September 15, 2012 Author Report Posted September 15, 2012 (edited) Started Trimming. IDK why but I feel like I already screwed it up. What do you guys think? Edited September 15, 2012 by Moose Quote
SuperTrooper Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 The face needs to be rotated more to the left. A good reference is to have the corners of the eyes line up with the trap edges. Quote

Moose Posted September 19, 2012 Author Report Posted September 19, 2012 With the help of some local 501st members we got the helmet assembled. Today I trimmed out the eyes and frown. How does it look? Do I need to trim more? Quote
bobojuice Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 I recommend trimming the teeth a whole lot more. Quote
Moose Posted September 19, 2012 Author Report Posted September 19, 2012 Brought it out more. Need more? Quote
bobojuice Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 In my opinion, yes. Check out StarwarsHelmets.com for some references. Quote
Moose Posted September 19, 2012 Author Report Posted September 19, 2012 Good reference. Hope this is it Quote
Peaches_DC Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 Looks a lot better now, but you want to take a small file to the edges of the "teeth" to square the holes. Also the right eye (the one with the bump) needs to be trimmed out a little more. You're doing it the right way though, little by little. Great work so far. Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 Looking great trooper, I used a small square file to make the teeth a bit sharper on the corners. I did find taking out a little more around the eyes gives you a lot more vision. Be watchin your build, good luck Quote
Moose Posted September 24, 2012 Author Report Posted September 24, 2012 Reassembled helmet. A little worried about the ear gaps... What do you guys think? Quote
Moose Posted September 24, 2012 Author Report Posted September 24, 2012 Brought the ear gap on the right side more and added the lens Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Nice looking bucket there Quote
HawkTrooper Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 Looking really good imo. Nice work so far, Chris. Quote
