Mattrendar Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Is armor from this site 501st acceptable ? I was thinking of ordering the full costume .
JoeR Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 (edited) Read the threads on here there's only about a million on this subject! Pretty much any armour can be made 501st acceptable. There's a ton of info about different vendors on here, you just have to read the threads. Edited August 24, 2012 by JoeR
TK5492[TK] Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 I assume you are speaking about the FISD, as in THIS site we are on. In which case, the FISD is a detachment of the 501st, and thereforce the vetted armor makers advertised on this site all sell armor that is easily built 501st acceptable out of the box. If you follow the threads and advice of these boards you will have no problem making it into the 501st.
seantrooper[TK] Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 I think he's talking about SDS. Any of the makers that you can find on this site are much cheaper
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 SDS armor is fine. some people don't like it.
Darth Hilarious Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Has SDS started supplying canvas belts yet? Their plastic ones won't pass 501st approval...
Sonnenschein Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 SDS armor is fine. No,it is not. It's a bad TE recast, mixed with other home made parts
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 (edited) so it's not 501 acceptable? and again the lineage of sds is claimed to be a TE recast. well I guess AA is not responsible for the cheesegrater, or the deathstar gunner, or the many helmet designs he created that have nothing to do with designs from others. so he's not responsible for the mountain of stormtrooper helmets in the film? so the fire, in his workshop you say he recast TE? to recover the forms? that does not fit with his story. but that is a common myth. I just don't see how Matt g is more important than andrew ainsworth in any case. matt and andrew have nothing to do with each other. they are generations apart. Locitus[Admin] Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 so it's not 501 acceptable? Not until they make a new belt for it: Belt proper is made of canvas, canvas covered material, leather, or vinyl, 3â€(75mm) to 3.5â€(90mm) wide. The color is be white to off-white.
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 the belt is the only factor for base acceptance?
Locitus[Admin] Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Right now, yes. But there's a lot of funky stuff going on with that armour. And I don't mean funky in a good way.
Sonnenschein Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 For the last time: AA did not sculpt anything. The were molds ("skins" )left. It was proven by pictures and even in court that he has not the original molds. He has reworked ROTJ molds. He LOST almost all of his claims in court, Except for that copyright thing I hope the stuff doesn't let this escalate in a recast discussion, started by the "AA fanboy"-club
Locitus[Admin] Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 I'm locking down this thread now. There are tonnes of threads debating the linage of SDS. We don't need another one. Vern, go search the forum if you're not happy with what we've already told you on numerous accounts. Or better yet, ask Brian Muir who actually sculpted the armour.
