lightside Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 But if i use my nail to scratch it, it shows the khaki color. This is not a bad thing to me. It gives more realism to your final job, I think. In some pics taken from ANH you can see some helmets lost a bit of white painting. Quote
vecspeed12 Posted August 7, 2012 Author Report Posted August 7, 2012 Yeah. That was what i was planning to do. I was just waiting til i finished painting the traps. Quote
AJCG Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 Thanks guys! Its rustoleum gloss white. 2 coats. There is primer and it seems to hold the paint well. But if i use my nail to scratch it, it shows the khaki color. Yeah Armando! Im in san francisco. How about you? Thats is the same I used for my previous lids, except the TE HDPE I painted years ago. For that one used Krylon White Gloss for plastics. For that helmet I slightly scrab the surface with a green scotch brite with water. That helmet never chip... Joey I live in SF as well LOL Quote
DudeSidious Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 Great job ,It's hard to believe but It looks like the HDPE lids have more detail then the PVC lids that RS make. I wonder if anyone's game to put a few paint runs on the helmets, but far as the chipping go's im letting mine happen naturally Quote
vecspeed12 Posted August 8, 2012 Author Report Posted August 8, 2012 I was so tempted to do some paint runs. But it just didnt happen and i didnt want to ruin something. Armando, what part of the city? Sidenote: did you use to own a s2000? It might be a weird question. Quote
vecspeed12 Posted August 8, 2012 Author Report Posted August 8, 2012 here is the inside of the helmet. paint chipping just by placing the S-trim. Quote
DudeSidious Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) Very cool! Did the tube strip template take any paint off when you removed it? Edited August 8, 2012 by DudeSidious Quote
vecspeed12 Posted August 8, 2012 Author Report Posted August 8, 2012 It didn't. The white paint sat to dry for 2 weeks. Quote

MartinSivertsen[501st] Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 Great work! I can almost feel the texture on some of those photos. Quote
AJCG Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 sweet! i used to live on 3rd and folsom. i moved recently. how come you don't join the 501st? Awesome job! I really love it. It is beautiful . This is the second PP helmet I have seen finished so far and what it called my attention the most is how glossy the white paint shows on both. I really dig as well the primer inside. can I asked which brand and color you used for yours? Are you adding the straps? Do you still live on downtown? I never thought about join the 501st yo be honest...probably because I am quite busy already. Great job again Cheers A Quote
vecspeed12 Posted August 10, 2012 Author Report Posted August 10, 2012 I used rustoleum paints. So red primer and gloss white. Ive had bad experience with paints lately and i was even scared to use the primer but it worked out okay. Quote

Stormy320 Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Yea - it looks really good. Seriously - red primer is the way to go? Seems like all you see is HDP green or white. I don't recall seeing red? Quote
vecspeed12 Posted August 11, 2012 Author Report Posted August 11, 2012 I'll take a closeup of some red under the white. Quote
DudeSidious Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 the primer you used was it an etch primer? Quote
vecspeed12 Posted August 20, 2012 Author Report Posted August 20, 2012 No, i couldnt find any here locally. Quote
DudeSidious Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 I couldnt find it either and just went with the red oxide primer.Great job the by the way I hope mine turns out that well. Quote
Dday[501st] Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 How do guys paint the black grill under the frown so good? My hand isn't that study The black in the frown area isn't painted. The only painted part there is the grey and the white. The black in the frown is just the darkness inside the helmet, and possibly some black mesh that was glued inside to obscure the wearer from prying eyes. Quote
