TK_LEPER Posted June 23, 2012 Report Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) Building this helmet for a friend out of State. Thought I would share the progress for both of you to enjoy. This is the ABS version, the 1st ATA that Ive worked with in this material. Overall a great looking kit, and you really can't beat the price. Nice work T! Kit showed up today at work. Parts included Surprised to find two sets of ears Fairly accurate brow trim Kinda funky lookin' S-Trim Face-shield like material for the lenses Hardware, etc. Tips are very nice, but seem a bit too large The infamous ATA cap n Back logo Marking areas for trimming Some plastic weird stuff going on here Test fit after a bit 'o' trimming Edited July 18, 2012 by TK_LEPER Quote
LadyInWhite[TK] Posted June 23, 2012 Report Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) Brilliant idea holding it together with magnets. Sometimes I remember I'm such a newb at all this! Looks good so far. Not sure what those images of "plastic weird stuff" were showing - any explanation there? Edited June 23, 2012 by LadyInWhite Quote
Nirix[TK] Posted June 23, 2012 Report Posted June 23, 2012 By the looks of it, the two sets of ears are for whatever type of helmet you're building, stunt (four bumps) and hero (three bumps). I should hopefully receive my ATA helmet soon to replace the abomination I'm using. (FX, its horrible) Quote
TK_LEPER Posted June 24, 2012 Author Report Posted June 24, 2012 No hero ears here. Both of these sets are Stunt ears... With the stunt helmets, the left ear always had a smaller set of bumps, compared to the right. By the looks of it, the two sets of ears are for whatever type of helmet you're building, stunt (four bumps) and hero (three bumps). I should hopefully receive my ATA helmet soon to replace the abomination I'm using. (FX, its horrible) Quote

ATA simply supplies 2 sets of stunt ears in case you mess up the first pair, you have a spare set. Quote
TK_LEPER Posted June 25, 2012 Author Report Posted June 25, 2012 Nice to have. Not that I have ever screw up or anything. Nope. ATA simply supplies 2 sets of stunt ears in case you mess up the first pair, you have a spare set. Quote
TK_LEPER Posted June 25, 2012 Author Report Posted June 25, 2012 (edited) Hey, I have the faceplate and cap glued together for resin coating. Started trimming the ears as well ... I'll wait to attach those when the inside is finished. But I just wanted to show some progress, and let you know that I'm working on it. Edited July 18, 2012 by TK_LEPER Quote

TK_LEPER Posted June 26, 2012 Author Report Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) Kool! I worked more on it last night. As a base, I coated the inside with a rigid foam. I'll sand this down some, and give it a layer of light weight resin. Then eventual give it a coat of paint for a more finished look. Edited July 18, 2012 by TK_LEPER Quote
MartinSivertsen[501st] Posted June 26, 2012 Report Posted June 26, 2012 I never get tired of looking at helmetbuilds! Quote
Gep Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 After all the trouble I'm having with my ATA ears, I'm loving how yours look. Nice job! Quote
TK_LEPER Posted July 18, 2012 Author Report Posted July 18, 2012 Painted the exterior ... just waiting for it to dry for a few days. Then I'll start adding the details. Quote
SCTrooper[TK] Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 Very nice Jesse, is the ATA helmet easier to put together than an RS props kit. Quote
MisterFubar[TK] Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 What do you charge? I've got an ATA ABS helmet sitting on my workbench that doesn't want to put itself together. I thought they self-assembled. Quote
TK_LEPER Posted July 19, 2012 Author Report Posted July 19, 2012 Very nice Jesse, is the ATA helmet easier to put together than an RS props kit. Maybe ... only because the plastic is much thicker. What do you charge? I've got an ATA ABS helmet sitting on my workbench that doesn't want to put itself together. I thought they self-assembled. Depends on what you want done to it ... But this projects cost $150 + S&H. That includes the cost for supplies (Rigid foam, resin coat, paints, padding, straps). He supplied the kit any additional upgrades would have to be purchased and supplied to me. Quote
cKranez Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 Awesome job so far! Thanks for the updates Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 Looking good, thanks for posting, just about to start putting mine together and was worried at first, now it all seems clear Quote
