TK bondservnt[501st] Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 here's a photostrip showing how to remove the base on a real m38 or m40 scope. this removes the base mount used on the tank. release pin first by prying the wire off the set brackets the hinge might need pressing from the other side with a pin and a hammer. (mine came off easy) so it's release pin first then pull out hinge. hope this helps people who get a scope with a mount attached. 1 Quote
jkno Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Thanks. I might have to do that with an upcoming M-38. Or maybe leave it as is for now. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted June 17, 2012 Author Report Posted June 17, 2012 I sure wish I had known how to do this. took only a few moments of my time to figure out. but I've tried to explain it before this is a pretty good photo example of part of the steps needed to remove the base 2 part mount. sometimes the secondary mount can cause trouble. that will be covered later in this series of mount removal photos. matt black Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 On mine I just unhooked the the spring by hand, the mount swung open and I undone the two screws underneath. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted June 17, 2012 Author Report Posted June 17, 2012 (edited) yep.. if you release the pin spring, it will swivel down. the hinge allows complete separation. if you remove that. some scopes have very tight screws beyond this step. matt black Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Yeah I found that. Very tight indeed. You have to be so careful to not round the head off as they are brass. Quote
Mogwai[TK] Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Great help, Thanks for the Photos. Helped me with my Scope, that I just received. And I could open the Screws very easily. Quote
Turrican Posted June 18, 2012 Report Posted June 18, 2012 Why so complicated? Just bend the spring carefully with a nipper out of there position and you can easily remove the screws. You not have to cut or damage anything. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted June 19, 2012 Author Report Posted June 19, 2012 (edited) the clip is the only thing you need to bend out of place or cut. I just bent the clip till it came off. nothing is cut... it just comes apart when you release the pin and the hinge. Edited June 19, 2012 by TK Bondservnt 2392 Quote
Turrican Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 (edited) You not realy need to do anything on the clip. Step by step of that what i mean.----------- Edited September 29, 2021 by gmrhodes13 link not working removed Quote
jkno Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 I just received my M-38. Those screws are VERY tight. No chance of unscrewing until the WD-40 does its job, hopefully it will... Quote
Turrican Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 Jep, also used a kind of WD-40. Waited a day till i tryed to open them again.Little bit tricky. Quote
DarthChridan[TK] Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 Jep, also used a kind of WD-40. Waited a day till i tryed to open them again.Little bit tricky. Oooooh yes....really tricky Quote
jkno Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 (edited) I managed to unscrew those 2 screws. But nor oil, nor WD-40 penetrated the tight thread. So I used my Bosch drilling machine with a screwdriver connector and unscrewed them. No way these could have been unscrewed by bare hands and a screwdriver, unless Hercules or Superman were around No damage to the screws or anything else. ---------- Edited September 29, 2021 by gmrhodes13 link not working removed Quote
