Guest Bezerkus
I'd say this helmet is a modified recast of an SDS helmet. It has the thin side tubes and the elongated ear caps. It's also badly assembled making it look worse that it probably is. I don't think it looks nothing like the VSF, unless there is a newer version of it? Don't think anyone is saying that the "New FX" has anything to do with the SDS helmet... it was the VSF that was thought to possibly be from the SDS. So, to get this right. There are three helmets discussed here: SDS BattleSpec VSF & "New FX" When did either arrive on the market? Sorry, must have misunderstood TM's post as he refers to a helmet (thought he was referring to "New FX") and then refers to the VSF after that. Paul has more knowledge of helmets in his hang nail than I have (as do other knowledgable people here). Was hoping to gain more knowledge of the tells in spotting some of these recasts and where the New FX and VSF originated from.
ItsThatGuy[501st]
Seriously - what is this "New FX"?
TK8280
Seriously - what is this "New FX"? Or does it really exist?
ItsThatGuy[501st]
Or does it really exist? I don't think it does - I think it was a term the newbs were throwing around for an ugly recast...or something...
dougefresh
I don't think it does - I think it was a term the newbs were throwing around for an ugly recast...or something... It all stems from an eBay listing from England... The seller was hocking what he purported to be FX armor, with a helmet that was clearly not the original FX/GT sculpt. It looked like some errant stormy had participated in some unholy cross-species lovin' with a Beluga whale, or something. It had a big, bulbous, oversized forehead-- hence Guns' wife's "neandertal" comment. If it was a re-cast, it was one for the books-- because that thing's no where even *close* to an ANH helmet. Now it looks as though the same seller has replaced it with a "genuine" re-cast... still crappy, but this one actually resembles it's originator. Just do a search for "Stormtrooper" in eBay and order the price highest to lowest. You'll see what we're talkin' about it. Can you say "overpriced"? ItsThatGuy[501st]
So what you are saying is essentially there is no such thing as a "New FX" it's just a recast - poorly constructed ANH helmet... I didn't find what you were talking about, but this image was from the first page of this thread. Is this the one? ----------- Edited January 27, 2021 by gmrhodes13 link not working, removed gmrhodes13 2021
Smitty
I hate to say it again but, man that is one ugly helmet.
trooperstormy
It makes me laugh. Then almost cry because someone butchered a TK helmet.
dougefresh
That's the one I was referring to. I have no idea if that's the "official" new FX helmet, though. It could just be something supplied by one particular seller. Either way, it's just goofy lookin'. john danter
Sorry to revoke an old thread....... Lads, there is no way on earth that a VSF lid is a recast of an SDS battlespec. Impossible time scale wise for a start. VSF, VaderMaker SciFactory was made by the late Graham Cambpell. Founder of the UKG!!! The helmets have been around for years, 2004 at least! SDS battlespec wasn't around then? VSF armour moulds are in possession by Mark Oijika ands he's had them some 10- 11 years. He and Graham never liked the helmet moulds they had and so Graham then went on and sourced a screen used lid from someone and cast it. Just like he did with a Vader helmet. Lots have said it's possibly a Meatsock recast? Meatstock is 2 piece, VSF was 3 and the timing of each don't match up, but I'm not sure. Graham was a very honourable guy and I doubt he would have been involved in recasting at all!!

john danter
Ok makes sense as to why Graham wanted another source for the lid then
SuperTrooper
VSF version 1 was a recast meatsock and nothing to do with Graham at all, message for more information. Joe Why not just post it?
JoeR
I am not arguing anymore on line Terrell that's why, I am not starting more fights.... I have owned two original ROTJ helmets and Mark has the Cameron Oakley ROTJ Stormtrooper mold and the VSF is nothing like any ROTJ helmet in any way shape or form, regardless of being reworked the size doesn't match an original either....
