troopermaster Posted April 17, 2012 Author Report Posted April 17, 2012 It sure is mate, and flexible too Quote
vecspeed12 Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 You're a machine paul. Whats your trick to no sleep? Quote
tkrestonva[TK] Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 Pioneering work, as one would expect. What brand of white glue are you using to attach the strapping? Quote
troopermaster Posted April 17, 2012 Author Report Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) what type of glue are you using to attach the elastic to the abs? What brand of white glue are you using to attach the strapping? Stelmax 1985 Edited April 17, 2012 by troopermaster Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Another part of the very authentic approach. White solvent-base glue. Be careful with this stuff if you're going to try and copy this method. The solvent will melt your plastic if you're too liberal with it. I haven't got the cojones to risk it so I stuck with E6000 and a thin brushing of white paint over the top to imitate the look of the glue. Quote
troopermaster Posted April 18, 2012 Author Report Posted April 18, 2012 (edited) You're right. This glue is serious stuff and will melt your plastic if you are not careful. Any over-spill or drops onto your armour will leave a nasty scar. The good thing about this glue is it dries very quickly, it's white, and will warp the plastic just as it can be seen on the original suits Edited October 12, 2012 by troopermaster Quote
ZeroRoom[TK] Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 It sure is mate, and flexible too Does this mean you simply bent the knee ammo pack by flex and affixed it? I notice the gaps between boxes don't show any signs of using the paint stick bend method. Did you apply heat at all? Quote
troopermaster Posted April 18, 2012 Author Report Posted April 18, 2012 Yes. You don't need to heat any of this 1.5mm ABS to bend it. That is why it is suitable for the original strapping because of the flexable nature of this plastic. You can fold it double over itself and it won't crack, it's that good! 1 Quote
SW1 Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 This Stelmax Glue is the nuts i used it on my RS build , but please do take note as Rich and Paul have mentioned it can mark and scar your armour if over spill , but boy if used correctley you do get some great warping effects going on like the on the original armour . @ Rich whats up with you man USE IT GIVE IN TO YOUR FEAR Quote
troopermaster Posted April 18, 2012 Author Report Posted April 18, 2012 Got a bit more done tonight. Quote
SW1 Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Luv the way you have got them bicesps sitting inside the top of the forearms Paul Lovley work Quote

SW1 Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 Mate that is one Sweet Hero helmet , me getting very excited Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 I'm glad you can pull the hero helmet in the new plain ABS. It's that little bit more authentic. Quote
Sonnenschein Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 This is going to be THE new benchmark! Quote
89Batman[TK] Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 Paul you just keep on raising the bar!!! Thanks for sharing! Quote
troopermaster Posted April 27, 2012 Author Report Posted April 27, 2012 I got the belt made up and I am pretty happy with the result. The multi layering makes it hard for me to sew but I have managed it. It's been slow going since my last update as I have been suffering from man flu, but I have managed to do some more work and will get some photos tonight. Quote
Sonnenschein Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 Get better soon! I think putting some fabric glue between the layer would help with sewing. Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 The belt you put together for me was excellent. You apologised for it so much in advance I didn't know what to expect. Turns out it was top notch. Quote
troopermaster Posted April 27, 2012 Author Report Posted April 27, 2012 Thanks for the tip, Karin. I think I will give some spray adhesive a try and see how it works. I have enough material to make a few more belts and hope I get them perfect every time. And thank you too, Rich. You know me, such a perfectionist I will keep persisting until I crack the belt build up. I am using three different materials (well four if you count the interfacing) and it's the fine silk/satin lining that's the tricky bit at the moment Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 You show that belt who the master is! Quote
thrill kill kult Posted April 30, 2012 Report Posted April 30, 2012 Great thread! I love learning about the original techniques! What size flat head screws and nuts are used to attach the wire bars that hold the strapping? As always amazing work! Quote
troopermaster Posted April 30, 2012 Author Report Posted April 30, 2012 Thanks, Mark The screws are M3 x 8mm. Be careful if you plan to use them on your armour because drilling so close to the ends of the armour can cause it to crack if you have a HIPS or acrylic capped ABS suit. 1 Quote
