LadyInWhite[TK] Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 (edited) Yep, I'm stumped - not by the electronics rigging I'm doing, but by (gulp) how to attach it inside the helmet! I bought two ADDA 12V fans, 40mmx15mm. Silent as can be. Tiny and not a LOT of air, but still a pretty good breeze. Run on 9V or four AA. I was hoping it might squeeze on two AA but no go. The AA boxes have switches; I don't have a 9V holding box yet. I hear the 9Vs run out of power quickly, so something swappable would be great. (Having four AAs to power one fan is super heavy.) SO - QUESTION IS ... How do I attach the components into the helmet? Especially the fan. It has screw holes and not much else to attach to. I was thinking I'd put it over the teeth holes or in the chin blowing up. Or I could put lower and run a little hose up. (It's not a squirrel fan.) Should I mount some abs goo to screw into? Or just e6000 those babies? Or... ? Thanks, experts!!! ----------- Edited March 28, 2022 by gmrhodes13 link removed no longer working Quote
JEDISTAR[TK] Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 I got my fans from Radio Shack..cpu fans-they work great! They also have 4 "AA" battery holders, I run 4 AA batts for each fan. Rechargables are the way to go. I installed my fans on the stud thru my mic tips..works great! You'll need on/off switches, 1 for each fan, R.S should have some. You can see how my fans sit in my bucket under #177 in request EIB forum. I would post the link but not great at computer skills..sorry..hope any of this helps Quote
LadyInWhite[TK] Posted March 14, 2012 Author Report Posted March 14, 2012 My husband suggested velcro (and I seem to recall seeing this from few bucket guts photos)... seems to be going all right for now, and also allows me to replace easily or swap 4AAs for the 9V. The fan is super quiet until it is in the bucket. It seems if it is touching anything it vibrates and gets a tiny hum. Is this normal? Quote
NoVATie[Admin] Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 I made little standoffs out of extra helmet padding foam. I hot glued one to each corner of the fan where the holes are to mount it, and hot glued each foam block to the helmet. This way you get a little bit more air circulation behind the fan, and there's no vibration since the housing is not touching the helmet. Quote
RogueTrooper[TK] Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 (edited) I used three Radio Shack 3.6" fans and used 9V for each fan. One for exhaust, the other two for bring in and circulate air. I used Loctite Plastic Epoxy to glue them in. Either 5min or 20 min will work. Loctite Plastic Epoxy works great for ABS. for the stand off I used extra ABS. ------------ Edited March 28, 2022 by gmrhodes13 link removed no longer working Quote
john danter Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 I use BluTac to stick my fans in Not sure if it's sold in the US? the kind of plasticene that kids stick posters to the wall with? It's great as it dampens any vibrations and allows you to move it until your heart is content Quote
